सिर लंगूर लपेटि पछारा। निज तनु प्रगटेसि मरती बारा॥
राम राम कहि छाड़ेसि प्राना। सुनि मन हरषि चलेउ हनुमाना॥3॥
Hanuman ji then wrapped his tail around the hermit, slammed him hard onto the ground, and killed him. At the moment of death, the hermit returned to his original demon form and uttered “Ram, Ram” before breathing his last. Hearing this, Hanuman ji rejoiced in his heart and continued on his journey.
हनुमान्जी ने उसके सिर को पूँछ में लपेटकर उसे पछाड़ दिया। मरते समय उसने अपना (राक्षसी) शरीर प्रकट किया। उसने राम-राम कहकर प्राण छोड़े। यह (उसके मुँह से राम-राम का उच्चारण) सुनकर हनुमान्जी मन में हर्षित होकर चले॥3॥
देखा सैल न औषध चीन्हा। सहसा कपि उपारि गिरि लीन्हा॥
गहि गिरि निसि नभ धावक भयऊ। अवधपुरी ऊपर कपि गयऊ॥4॥
Hanuman ji then saw the mountain exactly as the physician Sushen had described but could not identify the herb, so without wasting a moment he uprooted the entire mountain and, lifting it in his hand, rushed back through the air during the night, passing over the city of Ayodhya as he flew.
उन्होंने पर्वत को देखा, पर औषध न पहचान सके। तब हनुमान्जी ने एकदम से पर्वत को ही उखाड़ लिया। पर्वत लेकर हनुमान्जी रात ही में आकाश मार्ग से दौड़ चले और अयोध्यापुरी के ऊपर पहुँच गए॥4॥
*देखा भरत बिसाल अति निसिचर मन अनुमानि।
बिनु फर सायक मारेउ चाप श्रवन लगि तानि॥58॥
Bharat ji saw an enormous form in the sky and assumed it to be a demon. He drew his bowstring all the way to his ear and released a headless arrow.
भरतजी ने आकाश में अत्यंत विशाल स्वरूप देखा, तब मन में अनुमान किया कि यह कोई राक्षस है। उन्होंने कान तक धनुष को खींचकर बिना फल का एक बाण मारा॥58॥
* परेउ मुरुछि महि लागत सायक। सुमिरत राम राम रघुनायक॥
सुनि प्रिय बचन भरत तब धाए। कपि समीप अति आतुर आए॥1॥
As the arrow struck, Hanuman ji fell unconscious to the ground while uttering “Ram, Ram, Shri Raghunayak.” Hearing this beloved name, Bharat ji immediately rose and ran, rushing anxiously to Hanuman ji’s side.
बाण लगते ही हनुमान्जी ‘राम, राम, रघुपति’ का उच्चारण करते हुए मूर्च्छित होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े। प्रिय वचन (रामनाम) सुनकर भरतजी उठकर दौड़े और बड़ी उतावली से हनुमान्जी के पास आए॥1॥
बिकल बिलोकि कीस उर लावा। जागत नहिं बहु भाँति जगावा॥
मुख मलीन मन भए दुखारी। कहत बचन भरि लोचन बारी॥2॥
Seeing Hanuman ji in distress, Bharat ji embraced him and held him close to his chest. He tried every possible way to revive him, but all his efforts were in vain. With a sorrowful face and pain in his heart, Bharat ji spoke with tears welling up in his eyes…
हनुमान्जी को व्याकुल देखकर उन्होंने हृदय से लगा लिया। बहुत तरह से जगाया, पर वे जागते न थे! तब भरतजी का मुख उदास हो गया। वे मन में बड़े दुःखी हुए और नेत्रों में (विषाद के आँसुओं का) जल भरकर ये वचन बोले-॥2॥
जेहिं बिधि राम बिमुख मोहि कीन्हा। तेहिं पुनि यह दारुन दुख दीन्हा॥
जौं मोरें मन बच अरु काया॥ प्रीति राम पद कमल अमाया॥3॥
…”The Lord who separated me from Shri Ram has now brought this terrible suffering upon me once more. If I truly have unwavering devotion to Shri Ram’s feet in my thoughts, words, and deeds,…
जिस विधाता ने मुझे श्री राम से विमुख किया, उसी ने फिर यह भयानक दुःख भी दिया। यदि मन, वचन और शरीर से श्री रामजी के चरणकमलों में मेरा निष्कपट प्रेम हो,॥3॥
तौ कपि होउ बिगत श्रम सूला। जौं मो पर रघुपति अनुकूला॥
सुनत बचन उठि बैठ कपीसा। कहि जय जयति कोसलाधीसा॥4॥
…and if Lord Raghupati is gracious towards me, then may this monkey be relieved at once from all exhaustion and pain.” As soon as these words reached his ears, the mighty Hanuman ji rose and sat upright, exclaiming, “Glory to the Lord of the Koshal Kingdom!”
और यदि श्री रघुनाथजी मुझ पर प्रसन्न हों तो यह वानर थकावट और पीड़ा से रहित हो जाए। यह वचन सुनते ही कपिराज हनुमान्जी ‘कोसलपति श्री रामचंद्रजी की जय हो, जय हो’ कहते हुए उठ बैठे॥4॥
* लीन्ह कपिहि उर लाइ पुलकित तनु लोचन सजल।
प्रीति न हृदय समाइ सुमिरि राम रघुकुल तिलक॥59॥
Bharat ji embraced Hanuman ji tightly, his entire body trembling with joy and his eyes filling with tears of love, and as he remembered Shri Ram, the crown jewel of the Raghu lineage, his heart overflowed with affection that simply could not be contained.
भरतजी ने वानर (हनुमान्जी) को हृदय से लगा लिया, उनका शरीर पुलकित हो गया और नेत्रों में (आनंद तथा प्रेम के आँसुओं का) जल भर आया। रघुकुलतिलक श्री रामचंद्रजी का स्मरण करके भरतजी के हृदय में प्रीति समाती न थी॥59॥
* तात कुसल कहु सुखनिधान की। सहित अनुज अरु मातु जानकी॥
कपि सब चरित समास बखाने। भए दुखी मन महुँ पछिताने॥1॥
Bharat ji said, “O’ Brother, tell me about the well-being of the fountain of bliss, Shri Ram, along with His younger brother Shri Lakshman and mother Janaki.” Hanuman ji then narrated the entire sequence of events in brief. Hearing it, Bharat ji was deeply saddened, and his heart filled with remorse.
(भरतजी बोले-) हे तात! छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण तथा माता जानकी सहित सुखनिधान श्री रामजी की कुशल कहो। वानर (हनुमान्जी) ने संक्षेप में सब कथा कही। सुनकर भरतजी दुःखी हुए और मन में पछताने लगे॥1॥
अहह दैव मैं कत जग जायउँ। प्रभु के एकहु काज न आयउँ॥
जानि कुअवसरु मन धरि धीरा। पुनि कपि सन बोले बलबीरा॥2॥
He said, “Ah Lord, why was I born into this world, for I could not be of any service to the Lord,” but understanding the adverse circumstances, the gallant Bharat ji regained his composure and said to Hanuman ji,…
हा दैव! मैं जगत् में क्यों जन्मा? प्रभु के एक भी काम न आया। फिर कुअवसर (विपरीत समय) जानकर मन में धीरज धरकर बलवीर भरतजी हनुमान्जी से बोले-॥2॥
तात गहरु होइहि तोहि जाता। काजु नसाइहि होत प्रभाता॥
चढ़ु मम सायक सैल समेता। पठवौं तोहि जहँ कृपानिकेता॥3॥
…“O’ Brother, you are running short of time. If you do not reach Lanka by daybreak, it may be too late. So, sit upon my arrow along with the mountain, and I will send you straight to the abode of mercy, Shri Ram.”
भावार्थ:-हे तात! तुमको जाने में देर होगी और सबेरा होते ही काम बिगड़ जाएगा। (अतः) तुम पर्वत सहित मेरे बाण पर चढ़ जाओ, मैं तुमको वहाँ भेज दूँ जहाँ कृपा के धाम श्री रामजी हैं॥3॥
सुनि कपि मन उपजा अभिमाना। मोरें भार चलिहि किमि बाना॥
राम प्रभाव बिचारि बहोरी। बंदि चरन कह कपि कर जोरी॥4॥
Hearing Bharat ji’s words, Hanuman ji’s pride was tickled for a moment as he wondered, “How will an arrow fly with my weight,” but immediately remembering Shri Ram’s glory, he bowed at Shri Bharat’s feet and spoke with folded hands,…
भरतजी की यह बात सुनकर (एक बार तो) हनुमान्जी के मन में अभिमान उत्पन्न हुआ कि मेरे बोझ से बाण कैसे चलेगा? (किन्तु) फिर श्री रामचंद्रजी के प्रभाव का विचार करके वे भरतजी के चरणों की वंदना करके हाथ जोड़कर बोले-॥4॥
भरत बाहु बल सील गुन प्रभु पद प्रीति अपार।
मन महुँ जात सराहत पुनि पुनि पवनकुमार॥60 ख॥
On his way, the son of the Wind God repeatedly praised the strength of Bharat ji’s arms, his gentleness and virtues, and his boundless devotion to the lotus feet of Shri Ram.
भरतजी के बाहुबल, शील (सुंदर स्वभाव), गुण और प्रभु के चरणों में अपार प्रेम की मन ही मन बारंबार सराहना करते हुए मारुति श्री हनुमान्जी चले जा रहे हैं॥60 (ख)॥
* उहाँ राम लछिमनहि निहारी। बोले बचन मनुज अनुसारी॥
अर्ध राति गइ कपि नहिं आयउ। राम उठाइ अनुज उर लायउ॥1॥
In Lanka, Shri Ram looked toward Lakshman ji and said in a gentle, human-like way, “It is well past midnight, yet Hanuman has not returned.” He then lifted his younger brother into a close embrace and said,…
वहाँ लक्ष्मणजी को देखकर श्री रामजी साधारण मनुष्यों के अनुसार (समान) वचन बोले- आधी रात बीत चुकी है, हनुमान् नहीं आए। यह कहकर श्री रामजी ने छोटे भाई लक्ष्मणजी को उठाकर हृदय से लगा लिया॥1॥
सकहु न दुखित देखि मोहि काउ। बंधु सदा तव मृदुल सुभाऊ॥
मम हित लागि तजेहु पितु माता। सहेहु बिपिन हिम आतप बाता॥2॥
…“O’ Brother, you could never bear to see me sad, you have always had such a tender nature. For my sake, you left our father and mother and endured the cold, heat, and fierce winds of the forest…
(और बोले-) हे भाई! तुम मुझे कभी दुःखी नहीं देख सकते थे। तुम्हारा स्वभाव सदा से ही कोमल था। मेरे हित के लिए तुमने माता-पिता को भी छोड़ दिया और वन में जाड़ा, गरमी और हवा सब सहन किया॥2॥
सो अनुराग कहाँ अब भाई। उठहु न सुनि मम बच बिकलाई॥
जौं जनतेउँ बन बंधु बिछोहू। पिता बचन मनतेउँ नहिं ओहू॥3॥
…Where has that old love gone now, brother? Why do you not rise upon hearing my anxious words? Had I known I would lose my brother in the forest, I would never have obeyed even my father’s command…
हे भाई! वह प्रेम अब कहाँ है? मेरे व्याकुलतापूर्वक वचन सुनकर उठते क्यों नहीं? यदि मैं जानता कि वन में भाई का विछोह होगा तो मैं पिता का वचन (जिसका मानना मेरे लिए परम कर्तव्य था) उसे भी न मानता॥3॥
सुत बित नारि भवन परिवारा। होहिं जाहिं जग बारहिं बारा॥
अस बिचारि जियँ जागहु ताता। मिलइ न जगत सहोदर भ्राता॥4॥
…Children, wealth, one’s wife, home, and family come and go repeatedly in this world, but a true brother born of the same mother cannot be found again. With this understanding in your heart, arise, dear brother…
पुत्र, धन, स्त्री, घर और परिवार- ये जगत् में बार-बार होते और जाते हैं, परन्तु जगत् में सहोदर भाई बार-बार नहीं मिलता। हृदय में ऐसा विचार कर हे तात! जागो॥4॥
जथा पंख बिनु खग अति दीना। मनि बिनु फनि करिबर कर हीना॥
अस मम जिवन बंधु बिनु तोही। जौं जड़ दैव जिआवै मोही॥5॥
…Just as a bird without wings is left utterly helpless, a serpent without its radiant gem, or a mighty elephant without its trunk, so is my life without you, my brother. If cruel fate compels me to remain alive…
जैसे पंख बिना पक्षी, मणि बिना सर्प और सूँड बिना श्रेष्ठ हाथी अत्यंत दीन हो जाते हैं, हे भाई! यदि कहीं जड़ दैव मुझे जीवित रखे तो तुम्हारे बिना मेरा जीवन भी ऐसा ही होगा॥5॥
जैहउँ अवध कौन मुहु लाई। नारि हेतु प्रिय भाई गँवाई॥
बरु अपजस सहतेउँ जग माहीं। नारि हानि बिसेष छति नाहीं॥6॥
…Losing my beloved brother for the sake of my wife, with what face could I ever return to Ayodhya? I would have accepted disgrace in the world, (even if people said that Ram had no valour and lost his wife). The loss of a wife would not have been such a great harm compared to this unbearable loss…
स्त्री के लिए प्यारे भाई को खोकर, मैं कौन सा मुँह लेकर अवध जाऊँगा? मैं जगत् में बदनामी भले ही सह लेता (कि राम में कुछ भी वीरता नहीं है जो स्त्री को खो बैठे)। स्त्री की हानि से (इस हानि को देखते) कोई विशेष क्षति नहीं थी॥6॥
अब अपलोकु सोकु सुत तोरा। सहिहि निठुर कठोर उर मोरा॥
निज जननी के एक कुमारा। तात तासु तुम्ह प्रान अधारा॥7॥
…O’ Dearest brother, this harsh and unyielding heart of mine will now bear both the world’s disgrace and the torment of losing you. O’ Beloved one, I may be mother Kaushalya’s only son and the breath of her life, but you are the very life-force of my own being. If anything happens to you, I will not survive either. Then tell me, how will our mother remain alive?…
अब तो हे पुत्र! मेरे निष्ठुर और कठोर हृदय यह अपयश और तुम्हारा शोक दोनों ही सहन करेगा। हे तात! तुम अपनी माता के एक ही पुत्र और उसके प्राणाधार हो॥7॥
सौंपेसि मोहि तुम्हहि गहि पानी। सब बिधि सुखद परम हित जानी॥
उतरु काह दैहउँ तेहि जाई। उठि किन मोहि सिखावहु भाई॥8॥
…Yet she took you by the hand and entrusted you to me, knowing I would care for your happiness in every way and that I am your greatest well-wisher. What answer shall I give her when I return? Why do you not rise and guide me, brother?”
सब प्रकार से सुख देने वाला और परम हितकारी जानकर उन्होंने तुम्हें हाथ पकड़कर मुझे सौंपा था। मैं अब जाकर उन्हें क्या उत्तर दूँगा? हे भाई! तुम उठकर मुझे सिखाते (समझाते) क्यों नहीं?॥8॥
बहु बिधि सोचत सोच बिमोचन। स्रवत सलिल राजिव दल लोचन॥
उमा एक अखंड रघुराई। नर गति भगत कृपाल देखाई॥9॥
The One who removes the sorrow of His devotees wept in many ways, tears streaming from His lotus-petal-like eyes. Lord Shiv said to Goddess Parvati, “Uma, Shri Raghuveer is the One without a second, the all-capable Lord. Out of boundless compassion for His devotees, the all-Merciful has assumed human ways and emotions in His divine incarnation.”
सोच से छुड़ाने वाले श्री रामजी बहुत प्रकार से सोच कर रहे हैं। उनके कमल की पंखुड़ी के समान नेत्रों से (विषाद के आँसुओं का) जल बह रहा है। (शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे उमा! श्री रघुनाथजी एक (अद्वितीय) और अखंड (वियोगरहित) हैं। भक्तों पर कृपा करने वाले भगवान् ने (लीला करके) मनुष्य की दशा दिखलाई है॥9॥
* प्रभु प्रलाप सुनि कान बिकल भए बानर निकर।
आइ गयउ हनुमान जिमि करुना महँ बीर रस॥61॥
Hearing Shri Ram’s anguished cries, every platoon of the monkey army was overcome with sorrow. Just then, Hanuman ji arrived, carrying the mountain bearing the life-restoring Sanjeevani herb, as though the very form of grief had suddenly met the radiant essence of valour.
प्रभु के (लीला के लिए किए गए) प्रलाप को कानों से सुनकर वानरों के समूह व्याकुल हो गए। (इतने में ही) हनुमान्जी आ गए, जैसे करुणरस (के प्रसंग) में वीर रस (का प्रसंग) आ गया हो॥61॥
* हरषि राम भेंटेउ हनुमाना। अति कृतग्य प्रभु परम सुजाना॥
तुरत बैद तब कीन्ह उपाई। उठि बैठे लछिमन हरषाई॥1॥
Lord Ram joyfully embraced Hanuman ji, for the Lord is all-wise and ever grateful, and physician Sushen immediately applied the remedy, upon which Lakshman ji happily rose and sat up.
श्री रामजी हर्षित होकर हनुमान्जी से गले मिले। प्रभु परम सुजान (चतुर) और अत्यंत ही कृतज्ञ हैं। तब वैद्य (सुषेण) ने तुरंत उपाय किया, (जिससे) लक्ष्मणजी हर्षित होकर उठ बैठे॥1॥
हृदयँ लाइ प्रभु भेंटेउ भ्राता। हरषे सकल भालु कपि ब्राता॥
कपि पुनि बैद तहाँ पहुँचावा। जेहि बिधि तबहिं ताहि लइ आवा॥2॥
Lord Ram gathered Lakshman ji in His arms as the entire assembly of monkeys and bears burst with joy, and Hanuman ji then carried Sushen back to Lanka in the same manner he had brought him the night before.
प्रभु भाई को हृदय से लगाकर मिले। भालू और वानरों के समूह सब हर्षित हो गए। फिर हनुमान्जी ने वैद्य को उसी प्रकार वहाँ पहुँचा दिया, जिस प्रकार वे उस बार (पहले) उसे ले आए थे॥2॥
* यह बृत्तांत दसानन सुनेऊ। अति बिषाद पुनि पुनि सिर धुनेऊ॥
ब्याकुल कुंभकरन पहिं आवा। बिबिध जतन करि ताहि जगावा॥3॥
When Ravan heard this news, he was overwhelmed with sorrow and struck his own head again and again in despair. Distressed and anxious, he went to his younger brother Kumbhkaran and, after many attempts and methods, finally succeeded in waking him.
यह समाचार जब रावण ने सुना, तब उसने अत्यंत विषाद से बार-बार सिर पीटा। वह व्याकुल होकर कुंभकर्ण के पास गया और बहुत से उपाय करके उसने उसको जगाया॥3॥
जागा निसिचर देखिअ कैसा। मानहुँ कालु देह धरि बैसा॥
कुंभकरन बूझा कहु भाई। काहे तव मुख रहे सुखाई॥4॥
Upon waking, Kumbhkaran appeared as though the God of Death Himself had taken the form of a demon, and sat before him. He looked at Ravan and asked, “Tell me, brother, why do you appear so withered and worn?”
कुंभकर्ण जगा (उठ बैठा) वह कैसा दिखाई देता है मानो स्वयं काल ही शरीर धारण करके बैठा हो। कुंभकर्ण ने पूछा- हे भाई! कहो तो, तुम्हारे मुख सूख क्यों रहे हैं?॥4॥
कथा कही सब तेहिं अभिमानी। जेहि प्रकार सीता हरि आनी॥
तात कपिन्ह सब निसिचर मारे। महा महा जोधा संघारे॥5॥
Ravan, filled with pride even in his misery, recounted the entire tale of how he had abducted and brought Sita ji to Lanka, then added, “Brother, the monkeys have slain countless demons, including some of our mightiest warriors…
उस अभिमानी (रावण) ने उससे जिस प्रकार से वह सीता को हर लाया था (तब से अब तक की) सारी कथा कही। (फिर कहा-) हे तात! वानरों ने सब राक्षस मार डाले। बड़े-बड़े योद्धाओं का भी संहार कर डाला॥5॥
दुर्मुख सुररिपु मनुज अहारी। भट अतिकाय अकंपन भारी॥
अपर महोदर आदिक बीरा। परे समर महि सब रनधीरा॥6॥
…such as Durmukh, Devantak, Narantak, the great champion Atikay, the formidable Akampan, and many others like Mahodar. All were steadfast in battle, yet every one of them has fallen on the battlefield.”
दुर्मुख, देवशत्रु (देवान्तक), मनुष्य भक्षक (नरान्तक), भारी योद्धा अतिकाय और अकम्पन तथा महोदर आदि दूसरे सभी रणधीर वीर रणभूमि में मारे गए॥6॥
* सुनि दसकंधर बचन तब कुंभकरन बिलखान।
जगदंबा हरि आनि अब सठ चाहत कल्यान॥62॥
Hearing the ten-shouldered Ravan’s account, Kumbhkaran was filled with sorrow and said, “O’ Fool, after abducting the Mother of the Universe, do you still expect your welfare?…
तब रावण के वचन सुनकर कुंभकर्ण बिलखकर (दुःखी होकर) बोला- अरे मूर्ख! जगज्जननी जानकी को हर लाकर अब कल्याण चाहता है?॥62॥
* भल न कीन्ह तैं निसिचर नाहा। अब मोहि आइ जगाएहि काहा॥
अजहूँ तात त्यागि अभिमाना। भजहु राम होइहि कल्याना॥1॥
…O’ King of demons, you have acted without wisdom, and for what reason have you awakened me now? Even at this moment, cast aside your false pride, take refuge in Lord Ram, and you will secure your welfare…
हे राक्षसराज! तूने अच्छा नहीं किया। अब आकर मुझे क्यों जगाया? हे तात! अब भी अभिमान छोड़कर श्री रामजी को भजो तो कल्याण होगा॥1॥
हैं दससीस मनुज रघुनायक। जाके हनूमान से पायक॥
अहह बंधु तैं कीन्हि खोटाई। प्रथमहिं मोहि न सुनाएहि आई॥2॥
…O’ Ten-headed Ravan, can that Raghunayak, who is served by Hanuman, ever be an ordinary human? Ah, brother, you acted without wisdom by not coming to me earlier and telling me everything…
हे रावण! जिनके हनुमान् सरीखे सेवक हैं, वे श्री रघुनाथजी क्या मनुष्य हैं? हाय भाई! तूने बुरा किया, जो पहले ही आकर मुझे यह हाल नहीं सुनाया॥2॥
कीन्हेहु प्रभु बिरोध तेहि देवक। सिव बिरंचि सुर जाके सेवक॥
नारद मुनि मोहि ग्यान जो कहा। कहतेउँ तोहि समय निरबाहा॥3॥
…You have taken enmity against that Supreme Lord who is served by Gods like Lord Shiv and Lord Brahma. Had you come earlier, I would have told you the sacred secret that Sage Narad once revealed to me, but that moment has now long slipped away…
हे स्वामी! तुमने उस परम देवता का विरोध किया, जिसके शिव, ब्रह्मा आदि देवता सेवक हैं। नारद मुनि ने मुझे जो ज्ञान कहा था, वह मैं तुझसे कहता, पर अब तो समय जाता रहा॥3॥
अब भरि अंक भेंटु मोहि भाई। लोचन सुफल करौं मैं जाई॥
स्याम गात सरसीरुह लोचन। देखौं जाइ ताप त्रय मोचन॥4॥
…O’ Brother, embrace me once more before I depart, so that I may go and give true purpose to my eyes by beholding Shri Ram, whose dark, radiant form and lotus-like eyes remove all three kinds of suffering. (Adhyatamik, the pain of body and mind, Adhidevik, the trials sent by nature and fate, and Adhibhotik, the harm caused by other beings and forces.)”
हे भाई! अब तो (अन्तिम बार) अँकवार भरकर मुझसे मिल ले। मैं जाकर अपने नेत्र सफल करूँ। तीनों तापों को छुड़ाने वाले श्याम शरीर, कमल नेत्र श्री रामजी के जाकर दर्शन करूँ॥4॥
* राम रूप गुन सुमिरत मगन भयउ छन एक।
रावन मागेउ कोटि घट मद अरु महिष अनेक॥63॥
As Kumbhkaran reflected on Lord Ram’s divine form and virtues, he became momentarily absorbed and lost in that contemplation. Ravan then ordered millions of jars of wine and large herds of water buffaloes to be brought for Kumbhkaran’s consumption.
श्री रामचंद्रजी के रूप और गुणों को स्मरण करके वह एक क्षण के लिए प्रेम में मग्न हो गया। फिर रावण से करोड़ों घड़े मदिरा और अनेकों भैंसे मँगवाए॥63॥
* महिषखाइ करि मदिरा पाना। गर्जा बज्राघात समाना॥
कुंभकरन दुर्मद रन रंगा। चला दुर्ग तजि सेन न संगा॥1॥
After devouring the buffaloes and drinking the wine, Kumbhkaran roared like thunder and lightning, and intoxicated with a fierce desire for battle, he surged out of the Lanka fort alone, leaving the entire army behind.
भैंसे खाकर और मदिरा पीकर वह वज्रघात (बिजली गिरने) के समान गरजा। मद से चूर रण के उत्साह से पूर्ण कुंभकर्ण किला छोड़कर चला। सेना भी साथ नहीं ली॥1॥
देखि बिभीषनु आगें आयउ। परेउ चरन निज नाम सुनायउ॥
अनुज उठाइ हृदयँ तेहि लायो। रघुपति भक्त जानि मन भायो॥2॥
Seeing him draw near, Vibhishan stepped forward, bowed at his feet, and spoke his name. Kumbhkaran lifted his younger brother and held him to his chest, his heart gladdened to know that Vibhishan had become a devotee of Lord Raghupati.
उसे देखकर विभीषण आगे आए और उसके चरणों पर गिरकर अपना नाम सुनाया। छोटे भाई को उठाकर उसने हृदय से लगा लिया और श्री रघुनाथजी का भक्त जानकर वे उसके मन को प्रिय लगे॥2॥
तात लात रावन मोहि मारा। कहत परम हित मंत्र बिचारा॥
तेहिं गलानि रघुपति पहिं आयउँ। देखि दीन प्रभु के मन भायउँ॥3॥
Vibhishan said, “Brother, when I offered Ravan the most beneficial counsel and a solution truly in his best interest, he kicked me away. Offended by his behaviour, I sought refuge in Lord Raghupati, and seeing my anguish, the Lord held deep affection for me in His heart.”
(विभीषण ने कहा-) हे तात! परम हितकर सलाह एवं विचार करने पर रावण ने मुझे लात मारी। उसी ग्लानि के मारे मैं श्री रघुनाथजी के पास चला आया। दीन देखकर प्रभु के मन को मैं (बहुत) प्रिय लगा॥3॥
सुनु सुत भयउ कालबस रावन। सो कि मान अब परम सिखावन॥
धन्य धन्य तैं धन्य विभीषन। भयहु तात निसिचर कुल भूषन॥4॥
Kumbhkaran replied, “Listen, Brother, Ravan is now in the grip of his approaching death, so at this stage he will not heed even the wisest counsel. You are blessed, truly blessed, O’ Vibhishan, for you have become the crown jewel of the demon race…
(कुंभकर्ण ने कहा-) हे पुत्र! सुन, रावण तो काल के वश हो गया है (उसके सिर पर मृत्यु नाच रही है)। वह क्या अब उत्तम शिक्षा मान सकता है? हे विभीषण! तू धन्य है, धन्य है। हे तात! तू राक्षस कुल का भूषण हो गया॥4॥
बंधु बंस तैं कीन्ह उजागर। भजेहु राम सोभा सुख सागर॥5॥
…Brother, you have brought honour to our entire clan by taking refuge in Lord Ram, the ocean of bliss and beauty…
हे भाई! तूने अपने कुल को दैदीप्यमान कर दिया, जो शोभा और सुख के समुद्र श्री रामजी को भजा॥5॥
* बचन कर्म मन कपट तजि भजेहु राम रनधीर।
जाहु न निज पर सूझ मोहि भयउँ कालबस बीर॥64॥
…Worship the mighty warrior Lord Ram in thought, word, and deed, after giving up all deceit. Now go, for I am already under the shadow of death and can no longer discern between friend and foe.”
मन, वचन और कर्म से कपट छोड़कर रणधीर श्री रामजी का भजन करना। हे भाई! मैं काल (मृत्यु) के वश हो गया हूँ, मुझे अपना-पराया नहीं सूझता, इसलिए अब तुम जाओ॥64॥
* बंधु बचन सुनि चला बिभीषन। आयउ जहँ त्रैलोक बिभूषन॥
नाथ भूधराकार सरीरा। कुंभकरन आवत रनधीरा॥1॥॥
…After hearing his brother’s words, Vibhishan departed and reached the place where Lord Ram, the ornament of the three Realms, was present. He said, “O’ Lord, the one whose body is like a mountain and who is steadfast in battle, that Kumbhkaran has now entered the battlefield.”
भाई के वचन सुनकर विभीषण लौट गए और वहाँ आए, जहाँ त्रिलोकी के भूषण श्री रामजी थे। (विभीषण ने कहा-) हे नाथ! पर्वत के समान (विशाल) देह वाला रणधीर कुंभकर्ण आ रहा है॥1॥
एतना कपिन्ह सुना जब काना। किलकिलाइ धाए बलवाना॥
लिए उठाइ बिटप अरु भूधर। कटकटाइ डारहिं ता ऊपर॥2॥
As soon as the brave monkeys heard these words, they roared fiercely and charged toward Kumbhkaran on the battlefield, uprooting trees and even mountains to hurl at him while grinding their teeth in fury.
वानरों ने जब कानों से इतना सुना, तब वे बलवान् किलकिलाकर (हर्षध्वनि करके) दौड़े। वृक्ष और पर्वत (उखाड़कर) उठा लिए और (क्रोध से) दाँत कटकटाकर उन्हें उसके ऊपर डालने लगे॥2॥
कोटि कोटि गिरि सिखर प्रहारा। करहिं भालु कपि एक एक बारा॥
मुर्यो न मनु तनु टर्यो न टार्यो। जिमि गज अर्क फलनि को मार्यो॥3॥
The monkeys and bears hurled millions of mountain peaks and rocks at Kumbhkaran again and again, yet he neither faltered in spirit nor moved even slightly from his place. Despite all their force, they could not push him back, just as an elephant remains utterly unmoved when struck with the light fruits of the madar plant.
रीछ-वानर एक-एक बार में ही करोड़ों पहाड़ों के शिखरों से उस पर प्रहार करते हैं, परन्तु इससे न तो उसका मन ही मुड़ा (विचलित हुआ) और न शरीर ही टाले टला, जैसे मदार के फलों की मार से हाथी पर कुछ भी असर नहीं होता!॥3॥
तब मारुतसुत मुठिका हन्यो। परयो धरनि ब्याकुल सिर धुन्यो॥
पुनि उठि तेहिं मारेउ हनुमंता। घुर्मित भूतल परेउ तुरंता॥4॥
Hanuman ji, the son of the Wind God, then delivered a mighty blow with his fist, sending Kumbhkaran crashing to the ground in agitation. Enraged and shaken, Kumbhkaran began striking his own head, and upon rising again, he struck Hanuman ji with such tremendous force that Hanuman ji spun around and fell unconscious upon the ground.
तब हनुमान्जी ने उसे एक घूँसा मारा, जिससे वह व्याकुल होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा और सिर पीटने लगा। फिर उसने उठकर हनुमान्जी को मारा। वे चक्कर खाकर तुरंत ही पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े॥4॥
पुनि नल नीलहि अवनि पछारेसि। जहँ तहँ पटकि पटकि भट डारेसि॥
चली बलीमुख सेन पराई। अति भय त्रसित न कोउ समुहाई॥5॥
After that, Kumbhkaran hurled Nal and Neel to the ground and began striking down monkey warriors across the battlefield. Terrified, the monkey army fled in every direction, and none dared to stand before him.
फिर उसने नल-नील को पृथ्वी पर पछाड़ दिया और दूसरे योद्धाओं को भी जहाँ-तहाँ पटककर डाल दिया। वानर सेना भाग चली। सब अत्यंत भयभीत हो गए, कोई सामने नहीं आता॥5॥
*अंगदादि कपि मुरुछित करि समेत सुग्रीव।
काँख दाबि कपिराज कहुँ चला अमित बल सींव॥65॥
After rendering Angad and many other monkeys unconscious, Kumbhkaran, endowed with immense strength, pressed the Monkey King Sugriv beneath his arm and surged forward.
सुग्रीव समेत अंगदादि वानरों को मूर्छित करके फिर वह अपरिमित बल की सीमा कुंभकर्ण वानरराज सुग्रीव को काँख में दाबकर चला॥65॥
* उमा करत रघुपति नरलीला। खेलत गरुड़ जिमि अहिगन मीला॥
भृकुटि भंग जो कालहि खाई। ताहि कि सोहइ ऐसि लराई॥1॥
Lord Shiv said to Goddess Parvati, “O’ Uma, in His incarnation Lord Ram is performing human feats just as mighty Garud ji playfully moves among serpents. With a slight movement of His eyebrows, He could consume the God of Death itself, how could a battle like this be worthy of Him?…
(शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे उमा! श्री रघुनाथजी वैसे ही नरलीला कर रहे हैं, जैसे गरुड़ सर्पों के समूह में मिलकर खेलता हो। जो भौंह के इशारे मात्र से (बिना परिश्रम के) काल को भी खा जाता है, उसे कहीं ऐसी लड़ाई शोभा देती है?॥1॥
जग पावनि कीरति बिस्तरिहहिं। गाइ गाइ भवनिधि नर तरिहहिं॥
मुरुछा गइ मारुतसुत जागा। सुग्रीवहि तब खोजन लागा॥2॥
…Through these actions He is spreading His divine glory, sanctifying the entire world. By singing of His deeds, people will cross the ocean of worldly existence and free themselves from the endless cycle of birth and death.” As Hanuman ji regained consciousness, he began searching for Sugriv.
भगवान् (इसके द्वारा) जगत् को पवित्र करने वाली वह कीर्ति फैलाएँगे, जिसे गा-गाकर मनुष्य भवसागर से तर जाएँगे। मूर्च्छा जाती रही, तब मारुति हनुमान्जी जागे और फिर वे सुग्रीव को खोजने लगे॥2॥
सुग्रीवहु कै मुरुछा बीती। निबुकि गयउ तेहि मृतक प्रतीती॥
काटेसि दसन नासिका काना। गरजि अकास चलेउ तेहिं जाना॥3॥
Meanwhile, Sugriv also regained consciousness and slipped out of Kumbhkaran’s grasp, for the giant had loosened his hold, believing Sugriv to be dead. Kumbhkaran realized his escape only when Sugriv bit off the monster’s nose and ears and then soared into the sky with a thunderous roar.
सुग्रीव की भी मूर्च्छा दूर हुई, तब वे (मुर्दे से होकर) खिसक गए (काँख से नीचे गिर पड़े)। कुम्भकर्ण ने उनको मृतक जाना। उन्होंने कुम्भकर्ण के नाक-कान दाँतों से काट लिए और फिर गरज कर आकाश की ओर चले, तब कुम्भकर्ण ने जाना॥3॥
