देखे कपिन्ह अमित दससीसा। जहँ तहँ भजे भालु अरु कीसा॥
भागे बानर धरहिं न धीरा। त्राहि त्राहि लछिमन रघुबीरा॥2॥
When the monkeys saw countless Ravans everywhere, they fled in panic along with the bears. Overcome with fear and unable to steady themselves, they cried out, “Protect us, Shri Lakshman! Save us, Shri Raghuveer!”
वानरों ने अपरिमित रावण देखे। भालू और वानर सब जहाँ-तहाँ (इधर-उधर) भाग चले। वानर धीरज नहीं धरते। हे लक्ष्मणजी! हे रघुवीर! बचाइए, बचाइए, यों पुकारते हुए वे भागे जा रहे हैं॥2॥
दहँ दिसि धावहिं कोटिन्ह रावन। गर्जहिं घोर कठोर भयावन॥
डरे सकल सुर चले पराई। जय कै आस तजहु अब भाई॥3॥
Millions of Ravans ran in every direction, roaring in loud, dreadful, and terrifying voices. Seeing this, the Demigods watching from the sky fled in panic, crying, “O’ Brothers, abandon all hope of victory,…
दसों दिशाओं में करोड़ों रावण दौड़ते हैं और घोर, कठोर भयानक गर्जन कर रहे हैं। सब देवता डर गए और ऐसा कहते हुए भाग चले कि हे भाई! अब जय की आशा छोड़ दो!॥3॥
सब सुर जिते एक दसकंधर। अब बहु भए तकहु गिरि कंदर॥
रहे बिरंचि संभु मुनि ग्यानी। जिन्ह जिन्ह प्रभु महिमा कछु जानी॥4॥
….only one ten-headed Ravan had once defeated all the Demigods, and now there are countless such forms, let us hide in some mountain cave.” Only Lord Brahma, Lord Shiv, the wise Sages, and those who truly understood the Lord’s glory remained steadfast at the scene.
एक ही रावण ने सब देवताओं को जीत लिया था, अब तो बहुत से रावण हो गए हैं। इससे अब पहाड़ की गुफाओं का आश्रय लो (अर्थात् उनमें छिप रहो)। वहाँ ब्रह्मा, शम्भु और ज्ञानी मुनि ही डटे रहे, जिन्होंने प्रभु की कुछ महिमा जानी थी॥4॥
छंद :
* जाना प्रताप ते रहे निर्भय कपिन्ह रिपु माने फुरे।
चले बिचलि मर्कट भालु सकल कृपाल पाहि भयातुरे॥
हनुमंत अंगद नील नल अतिबल लरत रन बाँकुरे।
मर्दहिं दसानन कोटि कोटिन्ह कपट भू भट अंकुरे॥
Those who knew the Lord’s glory remained fearless, but the monkeys took the enemy’s phantoms to be real. Stricken with fear and distress, the monkeys and bears rushed to Shri Ram, crying, “Save us, O’ Merciful Lord.” Meanwhile, the most formidable warriors, Hanuman ji, Angad, Nal, and Neel, fought on valiantly and crushed many of Ravan’s phantoms that had arisen from the ground of deception.
जो प्रभु का प्रताप जानते थे, वे निर्भय डटे रहे। वानरों ने शत्रुओं (बहुत से रावणों) को सच्चा ही मान लिया। (इससे) सब वानर-भालू विचलित होकर ‘हे कृपालु! रक्षा कीजिए’ (यों पुकारते हुए) भय से व्याकुल होकर भाग चले। अत्यंत बलवान् रणबाँकुरे हनुमान्जी, अंगद, नील और नल लड़ते हैं और कपट रूपी भूमि से अंकुर की भाँति उपजे हुए कोटि-कोटि योद्धा रावणों को मसलते हैं।
* सुर बानर देखे बिकल हँस्यो कोसलाधीस।
सजि सारंग एक सर हते सकल दससीस॥96॥
Seeing the Demigods and monkeys in distress, the Lord of the Koshal Kingdom smiled, fitted an arrow to His Sharang bow, and in an instant wiped out the entire host of Ravan’s illusory phantoms.
देवताओं और वानरों को विकल देखकर कोसलपति श्री रामजी हँसे और शार्गं धनुष पर एक बाण चढ़ाकर (माया के बने हुए) सब रावणों को मार डाला॥96॥
* प्रभु छन महुँ माया सब काटी। जिमि रबि उएँ जाहिं तम फाटी॥
रावनु एकु देखि सुर हरषे। फिरे सुमन बहु प्रभु पर बरषे॥1॥
In an instant, the Lord destroyed the entire illusion, just as the rising Sun dispels darkness. Seeing only one Ravan remaining, the Demigods rejoiced, returned at once, and showered flowers upon Shri Ram.
प्रभु ने क्षणभर में सब माया काट डाली। जैसे सूर्य के उदय होते ही अंधकार की राशि फट जाती है (नष्ट हो जाती है)। अब एक ही रावण को देखकर देवता हर्षित हुए और उन्होंने लौटकर प्रभु पर बहुत से पुष्प बरसाए॥1॥
भुज उठाइ रघुपति कपि फेरे। फिरे एक एकन्ह तब टेरे॥
प्रभु बलु पाइ भालु कपि धाए। तरल तमकि संजुग महि आए॥2॥
Raising His arm, Lord Raghupati rallied the monkeys, who regrouped, calling out to one another, and inspired by the Lord’s might, the monkeys and bears surged forward again, leaping swiftly onto the battlefield.
श्री रघुनाथजी ने भुजा उठाकर सब वानरों को लौटाया। तब वे एक-दूसरे को पुकार-पुकार कर लौट आए। प्रभु का बल पाकर रीछ-वानर दौड़ पड़े। जल्दी से कूदकर वे रणभूमि में आ गए॥2॥
अस्तुति करत देवतन्हि देखें। भयउँ एक मैं इन्ह के लेखें॥
सठहु सदा तुम्ह मोर मरायल। अस कहि कोपि गगन पर धायल॥3॥
When Ravan saw the Demigods praying to Shri Ram, he realized that he had been reduced to a single form. He cried out, “Fools, you have always been beaten by me,” and with these words, he rushed up into the sky to attack the Demigods.
देवताओं को श्री रामजी की स्तुति करते देख कर रावण ने सोचा, मैं इनकी समझ में एक हो गया, (परन्तु इन्हें यह पता नहीं कि इनके लिए मैं एक ही बहुत हूँ) और कहा- अरे मूर्खों! तुम तो सदा के ही मेरे मरैल (मेरी मार खाने वाले) हो। ऐसा कहकर वह क्रोध करके आकाश पर (देवताओं की ओर) दौड़ा॥3॥
* हाहाकार करत सुर भागे। खलहु जाहु कहँ मोरें आगे॥
देखि बिकल सुर अंगद धायो। कूदि चरन गहि भूमि गिरायो॥4॥
The Demigods fled with loud cries, and Ravan shouted, “Fools, where will you run from me?” Seeing them in distress, Angad rushed forward, leapt high, seized Ravan by the foot, and dragged him down to the ground.
देवता हाहाकार करते हुए भागे। (रावण ने कहा-) दुष्टों! मेरे आगे से कहाँ जा सकोगे? देवताओं को व्याकुल देखकर अंगद दौड़े और उछलकर रावण का पैर पकड़कर (उन्होंने) उसको पृथ्वी पर गिरा दिया॥4॥
छंद :
* गहि भूमि पार्यो लात मार्यो बालिसुत प्रभु पहिं गयो।
संभारि उठि दसकंठ घोर कठोर रव गर्जत भयो॥
करि दाप चाप चढ़ाइ दस संधानि सर बहु बरषई।
किए सकल भट घायल भयाकुल देखि निज बल हरषई॥
After seizing Ravan and hurling him to the ground, Angad, the son of Bali, struck him with a kick and then returned to Shri Ram. Recovering himself, the ten-headed Ravan rose again and roared fiercely in a shrill voice. Blinded by false pride, he drew all ten bows and unleashed countless arrows, wounding the brave monkey warriors and spreading fear and anxiety through their ranks. Beholding his own might, Ravan felt a surge of delight in his heart.
उसे पकड़कर पृथ्वी पर गिराकर लात मारकर बालिपुत्र अंगद प्रभु के पास चले गए। रावण संभलकर उठा और बड़े भंयकर कठोर शब्द से गरजने लगा। वह दर्प करके दसों धनुष चढ़ाकर उन पर बहुत से बाण संधान करके बरसाने लगा। उसने सब योद्धाओं को घायल और भय से व्याकुल कर दिया और अपना बल देखकर वह हर्षित होने लगा।
* तब रघुपति रावन के सीस भुजा सर चाप।
काटे बहुत बढ़े पुनि जिमि तीरथ कर पाप॥97॥
Shri Raghupati then severed Ravan’s heads, arms, bows, and arrows again and again, yet each time they multiplied instantly manyfold, just as sins multiply when committed in a sacred place.
तब श्री रघुनाथजी ने रावण के सिर, भुजाएँ, बाण और धनुष काट डाले। पर वे फिर बहुत बढ़ गए, जैसे तीर्थ में किए हुए पाप बढ़ जाते हैं (कई गुना अधिक भयानक फल उत्पन्न करते हैं)!॥97॥
* सिर भुज बाढ़ि देखि रिपु केरी। भालु कपिन्ह रिस भई घनेरी॥
मरत न मूढ़ कटेहुँ भुज सीसा। धाए कोपि भालु भट कीसा॥1॥
Seeing the enemy’s heads and arms multiply, the monkeys and bears were filled with fierce rage. Crying out, “This fool does not die even when his heads and arms are severed,” the monkey and bear warriors rushed upon him in overwhelming fury.
शत्रु के सिर और भुजाओं की बढ़ती देखकर रीछ-वानरों को बहुत ही क्रोध हुआ। यह मूर्ख भुजाओं के और सिरों के कटने पर भी नहीं मरता, (ऐसा कहते हुए) भालू और वानर योद्धा क्रोध करके दौड़े॥1॥
बालितनय मारुति नल नीला। बानरराज दुबिद बलसीला॥
बिटप महीधर करहिं प्रहारा। सोइ गिरि तरु गहि कपिन्ह सो मारा॥2॥
A repository of immense strength, Angad, the son of Bali, Hanuman ji, the son of the Wind God, along with Nal, Neel, the king of monkeys Sugriv, and Dvivid, hurled trees and massive mountains at Ravan, but Ravan caught them all and flung them back at the monkeys.
बालिपुत्र अंगद, मारुति हनुमान्जी, नल, नील, वानरराज सुग्रीव और द्विविद आदि बलवान् उस पर वृक्ष और पर्वतों का प्रहार करते हैं। वह उन्हीं पर्वतों और वृक्षों को पकड़कर वानरों को मारता है॥2॥
एक नखन्हि रिपु बपुष बिदारी। भागि चलहिं एक लातन्ह मारी।
तब नल नील सिरन्हि चढ़ि गयऊ। नखन्हि लिलार बिदारत भयऊ॥3॥
One monkey ripped off Ravan’s skin with his claws, while another struck him with a kick and fled. At the same time, Nal and Neel climbed onto Ravan’s heads and, digging in with their claws, began tearing at his foreheads.
कोई एक वानर नखों से शत्रु के शरीर को फाड़कर भाग जाते हैं, तो कोई उसे लातों से मारकर। तब नल और नील रावण के सिरों पर चढ़ गए और नखों से उसके ललाट को फाड़ने लगे॥3॥
रुधिर देखि बिषाद उर भारी। तिन्हहि धरन कहुँ भुजा पसारी॥
गहे न जाहिं करन्हि पर फिरहीं। जनु जुग मधुप कमल बन चरहीं॥4॥
Seeing blood gushing from his body, Ravan was deeply distressed at heart and spread out his arms to seize them, but Nal and Neel slipped away each time, leaping from one arm to another like a pair of bees darting lightly over a forest of blooming lotuses.
खून देखकर उसे हृदय में बड़ा दुःख हुआ। उसने उनको पकड़ने के लिए हाथ फैलाए, पर वे पकड़ में नहीं आते, हाथों के ऊपर-ऊपर ही फिरते हैं मानो दो भौंरे कमलों के वन में विचरण कर रहे हों॥4॥
कोपि कूदि द्वौ धरेसि बहोरी। महि पटकत भजे भुजा मरोरी॥
पुनि सकोप दस धनु कर लीन्हे। सरन्हि मारि घायल कपि कीन्हे॥5॥
In a final burst of fury, Ravan leapt and seized them both, but just as he was about to hurl them to the ground, they twisted his arm aside and escaped. Enraged once again, Ravan took up his bows and struck the monkeys with his arrows, wounding them on the battlefield.
तब उसने क्रोध करके उछलकर दोनों को पकड़ लिया। पृथ्वी पर पटकते समय वे उसकी भुजाओं को मरोड़कर भाग छूटे। फिर उसने क्रोध करके हाथों में दसों धनुष लिए और वानरों को बाणों से मारकर घायल कर दिया॥5॥
हनुमदादि मुरुछित करि बंदर। पाइ प्रदोष हरष दसकंधर॥
मुरुछित देखि सकल कपि बीरा। जामवंत धायउ रनधीरा॥6॥
Seeing Hanuman ji and the other monkeys rendered unconscious as dusk set in, Ravan rejoiced, but at that moment the stalwart warrior Jambvant rushed forward to the battlefield.
हनुमान्जी आदि सब वानरों को मूर्च्छित करके और संध्या का समय पाकर रावण हर्षित हुआ। समस्त वानर-वीरों को मूर्च्छित देखकर रणधीर जाम्बवत् दौड़े॥6॥
संग भालु भूधर तरु धारी। मारन लगे पचारि पचारी॥
भयउ क्रुद्ध रावन बलवाना। गहि पद महि पटकइ भट नाना॥7॥
The bears who came with Jambvant grasped mountains and trees in their hands and repeatedly hurled them at Ravan, boldly challenging him to battle. Enraged, the mighty Ravan seized many valiant fighters by their legs and slammed them forcefully to the ground.
जाम्बवान् के साथ जो भालू थे, वे पर्वत और वृक्ष धारण किए रावण को ललकार-ललकार कर मारने लगे। बलवान् रावण क्रोधित हुआ और पैर पकड़-पकड़कर वह अनेकों योद्धाओं को पृथ्वी पर पटकने लगा॥7॥
देखि भालुपति निज दल घाता। कोपि माझ उर मारेसि लाता॥8॥
When the King of the Bears saw his battalion being destroyed, he was seized with fury and delivered a mighty kick to the centre of Ravan’s chest.
जाम्बवान् ने अपने दल का विध्वंस देखकर क्रोध करके रावण की छाती में लात मारी॥8॥
छंद :
* उर लात घात प्रचंड लागत बिकल रथ ते महि परा।
गहि भालु बीसहुँ कर मनहुँ कमलन्हि बसे निसि मधुकरा॥
मुरुछित बिलोकि बहोरि पद हति भालुपति प्रभु पहिं गयो॥
निसि जानि स्यंदन घालि तेहि तब सूत जतनु करय भयो॥
The force of the kick knocked Ravan unconscious, and he fell from his chariot to the ground, still clutching a bear in each of his twenty hands, like bees trapped among lotus petals at night. Seeing him senseless, the King of the Bears, Jambvant, struck him once more and then went to Lord Ram. As night had fallen, Ravan’s charioteer lifted him back onto the chariot and tried various means to restore him to consciousness.
छाती में लात का प्रचण्ड आघात लगते ही रावण व्याकुल होकर रथ से पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा। उसने बीसों हाथों में भालुओं को पकड़ रखा था। (ऐसा जान पड़ता था) मानो रात्रि के समय भौंरे कमलों में बसे हुए हों। उसे मूर्च्छित देखकर, फिर लात मारकर ऋक्षराज जाम्बवान् प्रभु के पास चले। रात्रि जानकर सारथी रावण को रथ में डालकर उसे होश में लाने का उपाय करने लगा॥
* मुरुछा बिगत भालु कपि सब आए प्रभु पास।
निसिचर सकल रावनहि घेरि रहे अति त्रास॥98॥
On regaining consciousness, the bears and monkeys gathered around Shri Ram, while the demons, gripped with terror, closed ranks around Ravan.
मूर्च्छा दूर होने पर सब रीछ-वानर प्रभु के पास आए। उधर सब राक्षसों ने बहुत ही भयभीत होकर रावण को घेर लिया॥98॥
