*दिसिकुंजरहु कमठ अहि कोला। धरहु धरनि धरि धीर न डोला॥
रामु चहहिं संकर धनु तोरा। होहु सजग सुनि आयसु मोरा॥1॥
….“O Elephants of the Ten Directions, who bear the weight of the Universe! O’ Divine Turtle, who served as the base during the churning of the Cosmic Ocean! O’ mighty Serpent, Shesha Nag, who sits atop the Divine Turtle and bears the weight of the entire cosmos! And O’ Divine Boar, who once lifted the Earth from the depths where the demon Hiranyaksh had drowned it—brace yourselves and hold the Earth steady so it does not tremble. Shri Ram is about to break Lord Shiv’s bow. Heed my words and remain vigilant!”
हे दिग्गजो! हे कच्छप! हे शेष! हे वाराह! धीरज धरकर पृथ्वी को थामे रहो, जिससे यह हिलने न पावे। श्री रामचन्द्रजी शिवजी के धनुष को तोड़ना चाहते हैं। मेरी आज्ञा सुनकर सब सावधान हो जाओ॥1॥
चाप समीप रामु जब आए। नर नारिन्ह सुर सुकृत मनाए॥
सब कर संसउ अरु अग्यानू। मंद महीपन्ह कर अभिमानू॥2॥
When Lord Ram approached the bow, the men and women gathered there began invoking their deities and recalling their past good deeds, fervently wishing for His success in breaking it. In that divine moment, all doubts and ignorance dissolved, and the arrogance of the foolish kings…
श्री रामचन्द्रजी जब धनुष के समीप आए, तब सब स्त्री-पुरुषों ने देवताओं और पुण्यों को मनाया। सबका संदेह और अज्ञान, नीच राजाओं का अभिमान,॥2॥
भृगुपति केरि गरब गरुआई। सुर मुनिबरन्ह केरि कदराई॥
सिय कर सोचु जनक पछितावा। रानिन्ह कर दारुन दुख दावा॥3॥
…the intense pride of Parshuram ji, the fear that gripped the Demigods and the Great Sages, the anxious heart of Sita ji, the deep remorse of King Janak, and the burning anguish of the Queen’s sorrow…
परशुरामजी के गर्व की गुरुता, देवता और श्रेष्ठ मुनियों की कातरता (भय), सीताजी का सोच, जनक का पश्चाताप और रानियों के दारुण दुःख का दावानल,॥3॥
संभुचाप बड़ बोहितु पाई। चढ़े जाइ सब संगु बनाई॥
राम बाहुबल सिंधु अपारू। चहत पारु नहिं कोउ कड़हारु॥4॥
…all of these seemed to climb aboard the massive bow of Lord Shiv, as if it were a ship. Each one, in their own way, sought to cross the vast ocean that symbolized the mighty strength of Shri Ram’s arms, yet there was no boatman to steer this ship across.
ये सब शिवजी के धनुष रूपी बड़े जहाज को पाकर, समाज बनाकर उस पर जा चढ़े। ये श्री रामचन्द्रजी की भुजाओं के बल रूपी अपार समुद्र के पार जाना चाहते हैं, परन्तु कोई केवट नहीं है॥4॥
* राम बिलोके लोग सब चित्र लिखे से देखि।
चितई सीय कृपायतन जानी बिकल बिसेषि॥260॥
Shri Ram first glanced at the crowd of onlookers and found them utterly still, as if they were lifeless figures painted on a canvas. The compassionate Lord then turned His gaze towards Sita ji and saw Her overwhelmed with deep sorrow.
श्री रामजी ने सब लोगों की ओर देखा और उन्हें चित्र में लिखे हुए से देखकर फिर कृपाधाम श्री रामजी ने सीताजी की ओर देखा और उन्हें विशेष व्याकुल जाना॥260॥
* देखी बिपुल बिकल बैदेही। निमिष बिहात कलप सम तेही।
तृषित बारि बिनु जो तनु त्यागा। मुएँ करइ का सुधा तड़ागा॥1॥
He saw that Janaki ji was deeply anxious, each moment felt to Her as long as an entire age of the Universe. For one dying of thirst, what use is a lake of nectar if it appears only after life has slipped away?
उन्होंने जानकीजी को बहुत ही विकल देखा। उनका एक-एक क्षण कल्प के समान बीत रहा था। यदि प्यासा आदमी पानी के बिना शरीर छोड़ दे, तो उसके मर जाने पर अमृत का तालाब भी क्या करेगा?॥1॥
का बरषा सब कृषी सुखानें। समय चुकें पुनि का पछितानें॥
अस जियँ जानि जानकी देखी। प्रभु पुलके लखि प्रीति बिसेषी॥2॥
What is the use of rain once all the crops have withered? What is the point of repentance after too much time has passed? Reflecting on this in His heart, Shri Ram looked at Janaki ji, and was filled with joy upon sensing the depth of Her love.
सारी खेती के सूख जाने पर वर्षा किस काम की? समय बीत जाने पर फिर पछताने से क्या लाभ? जी में ऐसा समझकर श्री रामजी ने जानकीजी की ओर देखा और उनका विशेष प्रेम लखकर वे पुलकित हो गए॥2॥
गुरहि प्रनामु मनहिं मन कीन्हा। अति लाघवँ उठाइ धनु लीन्हा॥
दमकेउ दामिनि जिमि जब लयऊ। पुनि नभ धनु मंडल सम भयऊ॥3॥
In His heart, Shri Ram offered reverence to His Guru, and with effortless grace, He lifted the bow. The moment He held it in His hand, it flashed like a streak of lightning and then transformed into a radiant circular disc shining in the sky.
मन ही मन उन्होंने गुरु को प्रणाम किया और बड़ी फुर्ती से धनुष को उठा लिया। जब उसे (हाथ में) लिया, तब वह धनुष बिजली की तरह चमका और फिर आकाश में मंडल जैसा (मंडलाकार) हो गया॥3॥
लेत चढ़ावत खैंचत गाढ़ें। काहुँ न लखा देख सबु ठाढ़ें॥
तेहि छन राम मध्य धनु तोरा। भरे भुवन धुनि घोर कठोरा॥4॥
No one could see the moment when Shri Ram lifted the bow, strung it, and drew it tight, He moved with such swiftness that all three actions seemed to happen in an instant, beyond the grasp of the eye. All they could see was Him standing tall, the bow drawn in His hands. And in that very moment, Shri Ram snapped the bow in two from the middle. A thunderous, fierce sound echoed through all three Realms (Earth, Heaven, and the Subterranean region).
लेते, चढ़ाते और जोर से खींचते हुए किसी ने नहीं लखा (अर्थात ये तीनों काम इतनी फुर्ती से हुए कि धनुष को कब उठाया, कब चढ़ाया और कब खींचा, इसका किसी को पता नहीं लगा), सबने श्री रामजी को (धनुष खींचे) खड़े देखा। उसी क्षण श्री रामजी ने धनुष को बीच से तोड़ डाला। भयंकर कठोर ध्वनि से (सब) लोक भर गए॥4॥
छन्द :
* भे भुवन घोर कठोर रव रबि बाजि तजि मारगु चले।
चिक्करहिं दिग्गज डोल महि अहि कोल कूरुम कलमले॥
सुर असुर मुनि कर कान दीन्हें सकल बिकल बिचारहीं।
कोदंड खंडेउ राम तुलसी जयति बचन उचारहीं॥
All three spheres of the Universe resounded with the fierce, deafening sound. The horses of the Sun God veered off their path, and the mighty Elephants guarding the Ten Directions let out distressed cries. The Earth trembled, and even the Divine Turtle, the Shesha Nag, and the Divine Boar (all who bear the weight of the cosmos) shuddered in unease. The Demigods, Demons, and Great Sages clasped their ears and began speculating anxiously, trying to grasp what had just occurred. Tulsidas ji says that once it became clear Shri Ram had broken the bow, the entire gathering erupted in joyous chants: “Glory to Shri Ramchandra ji!”
घोर, कठोर शब्द से (सब) लोक भर गए, सूर्य के घोड़े मार्ग छोड़कर चलने लगे। दिग्गज चिग्घाड़ने लगे, धरती डोलने लगी, शेष, वाराह और कच्छप कलमला उठे। देवता, राक्षस और मुनि कानों पर हाथ रखकर सब व्याकुल होकर विचारने लगे। तुलसीदासजी कहते हैं (जब सब को निश्चय हो गया कि) श्री रामजी ने धनुष को तोड़ डाला, तब सब ‘श्री रामचन्द्र की जय’ बोलने लगे।
* संकर चापु जहाजु सागरु रघुबर बाहुबलु।
बूड़ सो सकल समाजु चढ़ा जो प्रथमहिं मोह बस॥261॥
The bow of Lord Shiv was like a ship, and the mighty strength of Shri Ram’s arms was the vast ocean. When the bow broke, all those who had boarded this ship out of attachment were doomed and drowned.
शिवजी का धनुष जहाज है और श्री रामचन्द्रजी की भुजाओं का बल समुद्र है। (धनुष टूटने से) वह सारा समाज डूब गया, जो मोहवश पहले इस जहाज पर चढ़ा था। (जिसका वर्णन ऊपर आया है।)॥261॥
* प्रभु दोउ चापखंड महि डारे। देखि लोग सब भए सुखारे॥
कौसिकरूप पयोनिधि पावन। प्रेम बारि अवगाहु सुहावन॥1॥
The Lord cast both pieces of the broken bow down upon the Earth, and the entire assembly burst into joyous celebration at the sight. Guru Vishwamitra stood like a sacred ocean, brimming with the pure and beautiful waters of divine love,…
प्रभु ने धनुष के दोनों टुकड़े पृथ्वी पर डाल दिए। यह देखकर सब लोग सुखी हुए। विश्वामित्र रूपी पवित्र समुद्र में, जिसमें प्रेम रूपी सुंदर अथाह जल भरा है,॥1॥
रामरूप राकेसु निहारी। बढ़त बीचि पुलकावलि भारी॥
बाजे नभ गहगहे निसाना। देवबधू नाचहिं करि गाना॥2॥
…and on beholding Shri Ram, the full moon of beauty, mighty waves of joy and thrill began to rise in his heart. Drums thundered loudly in the Heavens, and celestial maidens began to sing and dance in celebration.
राम रूपी पूर्णचन्द्र को देखकर पुलकावली रूपी भारी लहरें बढ़ने लगीं। आकाश में बड़े जोर से नगाड़े बजने लगे और देवांगनाएँ गान करके नाचने लगीं॥2॥
ब्रह्मादिक सुर सिद्ध मुनीसा। प्रभुहि प्रसंसहिं देहिं असीसा॥
बरिसहिं सुमन रंग बहु माला। गावहिं किंनर गीत रसाला॥3॥
Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiv, along with the Demigods, realized Saints, and the greatest of Sages, all joined in offering their praises and blessings to the Lord. They showered Him with colourful flowers and fragrant garlands from the Heavens. The Kinnars sang sweet, melodious songs, filling the air with divine music.
ब्रह्मा आदि देवता, सिद्ध और मुनीश्वर लोग प्रभु की प्रशंसा कर रहे हैं और आशीर्वाद दे रहे हैं। वे रंग-बिरंगे फूल और मालाएँ बरसा रहे हैं। किन्नर लोग रसीले गीत गा रहे हैं॥3॥
रही भुवन भरि जय जय बानी। धनुषभंग धुनिजात न जानी॥
मुदित कहहिं जहँ तहँ नर नारी। भंजेउ राम संभुधनु भारी॥4॥
Shouts of victory echoed across all fourteen realms of the Cosmos, so loud and jubilant that the thunderous sound of the bow breaking was lost in their midst. Everywhere, men and women rejoiced, happily proclaiming that Shri Ram had broken the mighty bow of Lord Shiv.
सारे ब्रह्माण्ड में जय-जयकार की ध्वनि छा गई, जिसमें धनुष टूटने की ध्वनि जान ही नहीं पड़ती। जहाँ-तहाँ स्त्री-पुरुष प्रसन्न होकर कह रहे हैं कि श्री रामचन्द्रजी ने शिवजी के भारी धनुष को तोड़ डाला॥4॥
* बंदी मागध सूतगन बिरुद बदहिं मतिधीर।
करहिं निछावरि लोग सब हय गय धन मनि चीर॥262॥
The serene-hearted bards, minstrels, and singers are joyfully extolling the glory of Shri Ram by recounting the valiant deeds of His noble lineage. In gratitude and to seek divine blessings upon Shri Ram and Sita ji, people gifted horses, elephants, gold, jewels, and fine garments.
धीर बुद्धि वाले, भाट, मागध और सूत लोग विरुदावली (कीर्ति) का बखान कर रहे हैं। सब लोग घोड़े, हाथी, धन, मणि और वस्त्र निछावर कर रहे हैं॥262॥
* झाँझि मृदंग संख सहनाई। भेरि ढोल दुंदुभी सुहाई॥
बाजहिं बहु बाजने सुहाए। जहँ तहँ जुबतिन्ह मंगल गाए॥1॥
Cymbals, kettledrums, conch-shells, clarinets, large and small drums, and many other delightful musical instruments are playing in harmony. All around, young women are singing auspicious songs.
झाँझ, मृदंग, शंख, शहनाई, भेरी, ढोल और सुहावने नगाड़े आदि बहुत प्रकार के सुंदर बाजे बज रहे हैं। जहाँ-तहाँ युवतियाँ मंगल गीत गा रही हैं॥1॥
सखिन्ह सहित हरषी अति रानी। सूखत धान परा जनु पानी॥
जनक लहेउ सुखु सोचु बिहाई। तैरत थकें थाह जनु पाई॥2॥
The Queen, surrounded by her companions, was overjoyed, like a parched paddy field revived by a refreshing rain. King Janak, too, felt immense relief and joy, as if a weary swimmer had finally found footing in shallow waters.
सखियों सहित रानी अत्यन्त हर्षित हुईं, मानो सूखते हुए धान पर पानी पड़ गया हो। जनकजी ने सोच त्याग कर सुख प्राप्त किया। मानो तैरते-तैरते थके हुए पुरुष ने थाह पा ली हो॥2॥
श्रीहत भए भूप धनु टूटे। जैसें दिवस दीप छबि छूटे॥
सीय सुखहि बरनिअ केहि भाँती। जनु चातकी पाइ जलु स्वाती॥3॥
At the breaking of the bow, the kings lost their radiance, like lamps dimming at the break of dawn. And how can one truly describe the joy of Sita ji? It was like a chatak bird receiving a raindrop during the rare Swati constellation (when a single drop falling into an oyster transforms into a precious pearl).
धनुष टूट जाने पर राजा लोग ऐसे श्रीहीन (निस्तेज) हो गए, जैसे दिन में दीपक की शोभा जाती रहती है। सीताजी का सुख किस प्रकार वर्णन किया जाए, जैसे चातकी स्वाती का जल पा गई हो॥3॥
रामहि लखनु बिलोकत कैसें। ससिहि चकोर किसोरकु जैसें॥
सतानंद तब आयसु दीन्हा। सीताँ गमनु राम पहिं कीन्हा॥4॥
Lakshman ji gazed at Shri Ram with the pure devotion of a young chakor bird looking up at the Moon. Then, with Guru Shatanand’s blessing, Sita ji gracefully walked towards Shri Ram.
श्री रामजी को लक्ष्मणजी किस प्रकार देख रहे हैं, जैसे चन्द्रमा को चकोर का बच्चा देख रहा हो। तब शतानंदजी ने आज्ञा दी और सीताजी ने श्री रामजी के पास गमन किया॥4॥
* संग सखीं सुंदर चतुर गावहिं मंगलचार।
गवनी बाल मराल गति सुषमा अंग अपार॥263॥
Accompanied by Her graceful and gifted companions singing auspicious songs, Sita ji walked towards Shri Ram with the elegance of a young swan. Every movement of Her radiant form exuded boundless charm.
साथ में सुंदर चतुर सखियाँ मंगलाचार के गीत गा रही हैं, सीताजी बालहंसिनी की चाल से चलीं। उनके अंगों में अपार शोभा है॥263॥
* सखिन्ह मध्य सिय सोहति कैसें। छबिगन मध्य महाछबि जैसें॥
कर सरोज जयमाल सुहाई। बिस्व बिजय सोभा जेहिं छाई॥1॥
Sita ji shone among Her companions like the embodiment of supreme beauty itself amidst countless forms of grace. In Her lotus hands, She held a radiant garland of victory, which seemed adorned with the splendour of triumph over the entire Universe.
सखियों के बीच में सीताजी कैसी शोभित हो रही हैं, जैसे बहुत सी छवियों के बीच में महाछवि हो। करकमल में सुंदर जयमाला है, जिसमें विश्व विजय की शोभा छाई हुई है॥1॥
तन सकोचु मन परम उछाहू। गूढ़ प्रेमु लखि परइ न काहू॥
जाइ समीप राम छबि देखी। रहि जनु कुअँरि चित्र अवरेखी॥2॥
Though Her form reflected graceful modesty, Her heart brimmed with joyful anticipation. No one could discern the deep love She held within. As She approached Shri Ram and beheld His divine beauty, She stood still, like a figure captured in a painting, lost in the moment.
सीताजी के शरीर में संकोच है, पर मन में परम उत्साह है। उनका यह गुप्त प्रेम किसी को जान नहीं पड़ रहा है। समीप जाकर, श्री रामजी की शोभा देखकर राजकुमारी सीताजी जैसे चित्र में लिखी सी रह गईं॥2॥
चतुर सखीं लखि कहा बुझाई। पहिरावहु जयमाल सुहाई॥
सुनत जुगल कर माल उठाई। प्रेम बिबस पहिराइ न जाई॥3॥
Noticing Her state, a wise friend gently said to Sita ji, “Place the beautiful garland of victory around Shri Ram’s neck.” At these words, Sita ji lifted the garland with both hands, but overcome with emotion, She found Herself unable to complete the act.
चतुर सखी ने यह दशा देखकर समझाकर कहा- सुहावनी जयमाला पहनाओ। यह सुनकर सीताजी ने दोनों हाथों से माला उठाई, पर प्रेम में विवश होने से पहनाई नहीं जाती॥3॥
सोहत जनु जुग जलज सनाला। ससिहि सभीत देत जयमाला॥
गावहिं छबि अवलोकि सहेली। सियँ जयमाल राम उर मेली॥4॥
At that moment, Her raised arms looked so enchanting, like two lotus stems shyly reaching out to garland the Moon. Witnessing this divine scene, Sita ji’s companions began singing with joy. Then, with gentle grace, Sita ji placed the garland of victory around Shri Ram’s neck.
(उस समय उनके हाथ ऐसे सुशोभित हो रहे हैं) मानो डंडियों सहित दो कमल चन्द्रमा को डरते हुए जयमाला दे रहे हों। इस छवि को देखकर सखियाँ गाने लगीं। तब सीताजी ने श्री रामजी के गले में जयमाला पहना दी॥4॥
* रघुबर उर जयमाल देखि देव बरिसहिं सुमन।
सकुचे सकल भुआल जनु बिलोकि रबि कुमुदगन॥264॥
As the garland of victory adorned the chest of Shri Raghuveer, the Demigods began to shower flowers from the Heavens. Meanwhile, the assembled kings faded in spirit, like a cluster of lilies wilting at the rise of the Sun.
श्री रघुनाथजी के हृदय पर जयमाला देखकर देवता फूल बरसाने लगे। समस्त राजागण इस प्रकार सकुचा गए मानो सूर्य को देखकर कुमुदों का समूह सिकुड़ गया हो॥264॥
* पुर अरु ब्योम बाजने बाजे। खल भए मलिन साधु सब राजे॥
सुर किंनर नर नाग मुनीसा। जय जय जय कहि देहिं असीसा॥1॥
Musical instruments echoed through the city and the Heavens. The wicked were disheartened, while the wise rejoiced. Demigods, Kinnars, Humans, Serpents, and revered Sages all chanted the name of Shri Ram, showering Him with their blessings.
नगर और आकाश में बाजे बजने लगे। दुष्ट लोग उदास हो गए और सज्जन लोग सब प्रसन्न हो गए। देवता, किन्नर, मनुष्य, नाग और मुनीश्वर जय-जयकार करके आशीर्वाद दे रहे हैं॥1॥
नाचहिं गावहिं बिबुध बधूटीं। बार बार कुसुमांजलि छूटीं॥
जहँ तहँ बिप्र बेदधुनि करहीं। बंदी बिरिदावलि उच्चरहीं॥2॥
The celestial women are dancing and singing with joy, showering flowers again and again from the palms of their hands. All around, Brahmins are chanting Vedic hymns, while bards sing the glory of Shri Ram.
देवताओं की स्त्रियाँ नाचती-गाती हैं। बार-बार हाथों से पुष्पों की अंजलियाँ छूट रही हैं। जहाँ-तहाँ ब्रह्म वेदध्वनि कर रहे हैं और भाट लोग विरुदावली (कुलकीर्ति) बखान रहे हैं॥2॥
महिं पाताल नाक जसु ब्यापा। राम बरी सिय भंजेउ चापा॥
करहिं आरती पुर नर नारी। देहिं निछावरि बित्त बिसारी॥3॥
The glorious news echoed across the three Worlds (Earth, Heaven, and the Subterranean realm) that Shri Ram had broken the bow and wed Sita ji. Filled with joy, the men and women of the city performed aarti, and setting aside their social status, offered gifts far beyond their means.
पृथ्वी, पाताल और स्वर्ग तीनों लोकों में यश फैल गया कि श्री रामचन्द्रजी ने धनुष तोड़ दिया और सीताजी को वरण कर लिया। नगर के नर-नारी आरती कर रहे हैं और अपनी पूँजी (हैसियत) को भुलाकर (सामर्थ्य से बहुत अधिक) निछावर कर रहे हैं॥3॥
सोहति सीय राम कै जोरी। छबि सिंगारु मनहुँ एक ठोरी॥
सखीं कहहिं प्रभु पद गहु सीता। करति न चरन परस अति भीता॥4॥
The divine presence of Shri Ram and Sita ji together was so captivating, as if beauty and the art of love had merged into one. Sita ji’s friends softly urged, “O’ Sita, touch the feet of Your Lord,” but She, overcome with awe and reverence, stood still, hesitant and afraid.
श्री सीता-रामजी की जोड़ी ऐसी सुशोभित हो रही है मानो सुंदरता और श्रृंगार रस एकत्र हो गए हों। सखियाँ कह रही हैं- सीते! स्वामी के चरण छुओ, किन्तु सीताजी अत्यन्त भयभीत हुई उनके चरण नहीं छूतीं॥4॥
* गौतम तिय गति सुरति करि नहिं परसति पग पानि।
मन बिहसे रघुबंसमनि प्रीति अलौकिक जानि॥265॥
Remembering the fate of Sage Gautam’s wife Ahalya, Sita ji refrained from touching Shri Ram’s feet with Her hands. (She recalled how Ahalya, cursed to become a stone, regained her human form upon being touched by Shri Ram’s feet and, after offering her prayers, ascended to her husband’s celestial abode). Realizing the depth of Sita ji’s divine love, Shri Ram, the jewel of the Raghus and knower of all hearts, smiled inwardly.
गौतमजी की स्त्री अहल्या की गति का स्मरण करके सीताजी श्री रामजी के चरणों को हाथों से स्पर्श नहीं कर रही हैं। सीताजी की अलौकिक प्रीति जानकर रघुकुल मणि श्री रामचन्द्रजी मन में हँसे॥265॥
* तब सिय देखि भूप अभिलाषे। कूर कपूत मूढ़ मन माखे॥
उठि उठि पहिरि सनाह अभागे। जहँ तहँ गाल बजावन लागे॥1॥
At the same time, some of the arrogant kings who had desired Sita ji, wicked and foolish men who brought disgrace to their family names, were filled with rage. One after another, those unfortunate souls rose from their seats, donned their armour, and began boasting arrogantly.
उस समय सीताजी को देखकर कुछ राजा लोग ललचा उठे। वे दुष्ट, कुपूत और मूढ़ राजा मन में बहुत तमतमाए। वे अभागे उठ-उठकर, कवच पहनकर, जहाँ-तहाँ गाल बजाने लगे॥1॥
लेहु छड़ाइ सीय कह कोऊ। धरि बाँधहु नृप बालक दोऊ॥
तोरें धनुषु चाड़ नहिं सरई। जीवत हमहि कुअँरि को बरई॥2॥
One of them said, “Let’s seize Sita by force, capture the two Princes, and bind them. Just breaking the bow isn’t enough to win Her. As long as we are alive, who dares to marry the Princess?…
कोई कहते हैं, सीता को छीन लो और दोनों राजकुमारों को पकड़कर बाँध लो। धनुष तोड़ने से ही चाह नहीं सरेगी (पूरी होगी)। हमारे जीते-जी राजकुमारी को कौन ब्याह सकता है?॥2॥
जौं बिदेहु कछु करै सहाई। जीतहु समर सहित दोउ भाई॥
साधु भूप बोले सुनि बानी। राजसमाजहि लाज लजानी॥3॥

यदि जनक कुछ सहायता करें, तो युद्ध में दोनों भाइयों सहित उसे भी जीत लो। ये वचन सुनकर साधु राजा बोले- इस (निर्लज्ज) राज समाज को देखकर तो लाज भी लजा गई॥3॥
बलु प्रतापु बीरता बड़ाई। नाक पिनाकहि संग सिधाई॥
सोइ सूरता कि अब कहुँ पाई। असि बुधि तौ बिधि मुँह मसि लाई॥4॥
…Ha! Your strength, majesty, valour, fame, and pride were all shattered along with the bow. Is this the same valour you boast of now, or have you borrowed it from somewhere else? What a twisted mind you have, no wonder the Creator has brought disgrace upon you!…
अरे! तुम्हारा बल, प्रताप, वीरता, बड़ाई और नाक (प्रतिष्ठा) तो धनुष के साथ ही चली गई। वही वीरता थी कि अब कहीं से मिली है? ऐसी दुष्ट बुद्धि है, तभी तो विधाता ने तुम्हारे मुखों पर कालिख लगा दी॥4॥
* देखहु रामहि नयन भरि तजि इरिषा मदु कोहु।।
लखन रोषु पावकु प्रबल जानि सलभ जनि होहु॥266॥

ईर्षा, घमंड और क्रोध छोड़कर नेत्र भरकर श्री रामजी (की छबि) को देख लो। लक्ष्मण के क्रोध को प्रबल अग्नि जानकर उसमें पतंगे मत बनो॥266॥
*बैनतेय बलि जिमि चह कागू। जिमि ससु चहै नाग अरि भागू॥
जिमि चह कुसल अकारन कोही। सब संपदा चहै सिवद्रोही॥1॥
…Just as a crow hopes to share Garud’s prey, or a rabbit longs for a portion of a lion’s kill, or someone who grows angry without cause wishes for peace, or one who opposes Lord Shiv desires all forms of prosperity…
जैसे गरुड़ का भाग कौआ चाहे, सिंह का भाग खरगोश चाहे, बिना कारण ही क्रोध करने वाला अपनी कुशल चाहे, शिवजी से विरोध करने वाला सब प्रकार की सम्पत्ति चाहे,॥1॥
लोभी लोलुप कल कीरति चहई। अकलंकता कि कामी लहई॥
हरि पद बिमुख परम गति चाहा। तस तुम्हार लालचु नरनाहा॥2॥
…or a greedy, covetous man craves a good name, or a lustful man wishes to remain pure, or one who turns away from Shri Hari’s feet desires supreme liberation. O’ Kings, your longing for Sita is just as futile.”
लोभी-लालची सुंदर कीर्ति चाहे, कामी मनुष्य निष्कलंकता (चाहे तो) क्या पा सकता है? और जैसे श्री हरि के चरणों से विमुख मनुष्य परमगति (मोक्ष) चाहे, हे राजाओं! सीता के लिए तुम्हारा लालच भी वैसा ही व्यर्थ है॥2॥
कोलाहलु सुनि सीय सकानी। सखीं लवाइ गईं जहँ रानी॥
रामु सुभायँ चले गुरु पाहीं। सिय सनेहु बरनत मन माहीं॥3॥
Hearing the commotion, Sita ji grew anxious. Her companions gently led Her to the Queen, Her mother. Meanwhile, Shri Ram, calm and composed as always, went to Guru Vishwamitra, His heart quietly reflecting on Sita ji’s love.
कोलाहल सुनकर सीताजी शंकित हो गईं। तब सखियाँ उन्हें वहाँ ले गईं, जहाँ रानी (सीताजी की माता) थीं। श्री रामचन्द्रजी मन में सीताजी के प्रेम का बखान करते हुए स्वाभाविक चाल से गुरुजी के पास चले॥3॥
रानिन्ह सहित सोच बस सीया। अब धौं बिधिहि काह करनीया॥
भूप बचन सुनि इत उत तकहीं। लखनु राम डर बोलि न सकहीं॥4॥
The Queens, along with Sita ji, were overcome with anxiety, wondering what fate had in store for them. Hearing the arrogant words of the kings, Lakshman ji glanced around restlessly, but out of reverence for Shri Ram, he held back and remained silent.
रानियों सहित सीताजी (दुष्ट राजाओं के दुर्वचन सुनकर) सोच के वश हैं कि न जाने विधाता अब क्या करने वाले हैं। राजाओं के वचन सुनकर लक्ष्मणजी इधर-उधर ताकते हैं, किन्तु श्री रामचन्द्रजी के डर से कुछ बोल नहीं सकते॥4॥
* अरुन नयन भृकुटी कुटिल चितवत नृपन्ह सकोप।
मनहुँ मत्त गजगन निरखि सिंघकिसोरहि चोप॥267॥
Lakshman ji’s eyes turned red with rage, and his eyebrows arched sharply. He cast a fierce glance at the kings, like a young lion stirred to fury at the sight of a herd of drunken elephants.
उनके नेत्र लाल और भौंहें टेढ़ी हो गईं और वे क्रोध से राजाओं की ओर देखने लगे, मानो मतवाले हाथियों का झुंड देखकर सिंह के बच्चे को जोश आ गया हो॥267॥
* खरभरु देखि बिकल पुर नारीं। सब मिलि देहिं महीपन्ह गारीं॥
तेहिं अवसर सुनि सिवधनु भंगा। आयउ भृगुकुल कमल पतंगा॥1॥
Seeing the unrest, the women of Janakpur grew anxious and began cursing the kings in unison. Just then, Parshuram ji, the radiant Sun of the lotus-like Bhrigu clan, arrived, having heard that Lord Shiv’s bow had been broken.
खलबली देखकर जनकपुरी की स्त्रियाँ व्याकुल हो गईं और सब मिलकर राजाओं को गालियाँ देने लगीं। उसी मौके पर शिवजी के धनुष का टूटना सुनकर भृगुकुल रूपी कमल के सूर्य परशुरामजी आए॥1॥
देखि महीप सकल सकुचाने। बाज झपट जनु लवा लुकाने॥
गौरि सरीर भूति भल भ्राजा। भाल बिसाल त्रिपुंड बिराजा॥2॥
At the sight of him, all the kings were seized with fear, like a quail trembling under the shadow of a hawk. His fair, ash-smeared body radiated a fierce aura, and his broad forehead was adorned with a shining Tripund (the three sacred horizontal lines worn by devotees of Lord Shiv).
इन्हें देखकर सब राजा सकुचा गए, मानो बाज के झपटने पर बटेर लुक (छिप) गए हों। गोरे शरीर पर विभूति (भस्म) बड़ी फब रही है और विशाल ललाट पर त्रिपुण्ड्र विशेष शोभा दे रहा है॥2॥
सीस जटा ससिबदनु सुहावा। रिस बस कछुक अरुन होइ आवा॥
भृकुटी कुटिल नयन रिस राते। सहजहुँ चितवत मनहुँ रिसाते॥3॥
With matted locks crowning his head, his radiant, Moon-like face had taken on a reddish hue from anger. His eyebrows were arched, and his eyes burned crimson with fury. Even the natural expression in his gaze revealed the storm of wrath within him.
सिर पर जटा है, सुंदर मुखचन्द्र क्रोध के कारण कुछ लाल हो आया है। भौंहें टेढ़ी और आँखें क्रोध से लाल हैं। सहज ही देखते हैं, तो भी ऐसा जान पड़ता है मानो क्रोध कर रहे हैं॥3॥
बृषभ कंध उर बाहु बिसाला। चारु जनेउ माल मृगछाला॥
कटि मुनिबसन तून दुइ बाँधें। धनु सर कर कुठारु कल काँधें॥4॥
His broad, well-built shoulders resembled those of a powerful bull, and his chest and arms were massive and strong. He wore a beautiful sacred thread, a rosary, and a deerskin across his body. Dressed in a hermit’s robe (made of tree bark), he had two quivers tied around his waist. A bow and arrow rested in his hands, while a gleaming axe was slung gracefully over his shoulder.
बैल के समान (ऊँचे और पुष्ट) कंधे हैं, छाती और भुजाएँ विशाल हैं। सुंदर यज्ञोपवीत धारण किए, माला पहने और मृगचर्म लिए हैं। कमर में मुनियों का वस्त्र (वल्कल) और दो तरकस बाँधे हैं। हाथ में धनुष-बाण और सुंदर कंधे पर फरसा धारण किए हैं॥4॥
* सांत बेषु करनी कठिन बरनि न जाइ सरूप।
धरि मुनितनु जनु बीर रसु आयउ जहँ सब भूप॥268॥
Parshuram ji appeared calm, yet his actions were fierce, making it difficult to judge him by his looks. It was as though the very essence of heroism and valour had taken the form of a Sage and arrived amidst the gathering of kings.
शांत वेष है, परन्तु करनी बहुत कठोर हैं, स्वरूप का वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। मानो वीर रस ही मुनि का शरीर धारण करके, जहाँ सब राजा लोग हैं, वहाँ आ गया हो॥268॥
* देखत भृगुपति बेषु कराला। उठे सकल भय बिकल भुआला॥
पितु समेत कहि कहि निज नामा। लगे करन सब दंड प्रनामा॥1॥
At the sight of Sage Parashuram’s fierce form, all the kings rose in fear. They introduced themselves by stating their names along with their fathers’ names and paid their respects by bowing down and lying prostrate before him.
परशुरामजी का भयानक वेष देखकर सब राजा भय से व्याकुल हो उठ खड़े हुए और पिता सहित अपना नाम कह-कहकर सब दंडवत प्रणाम करने लगे॥1॥
जेहि सुभायँ चितवहिं हितु जानी। सो जानइ जनु आइ खुटानी॥
जनक बहोरि आइ सिरु नावा। सीय बोलाइ प्रनामु करावा॥2॥
Anyone whom Parshuram ji even glanced at with a neutral or mild expression felt as though their life was about to end. Then King Janak stepped forward, bowed his head, and called upon Sita ji to come and offer Her respects to the Sage.
परशुरामजी हित समझकर भी सहज ही जिसकी ओर देख लेते हैं, वह समझता है मानो मेरी आयु पूरी हो गई। फिर जनकजी ने आकर सिर नवाया और सीताजी को बुलाकर प्रणाम कराया॥2॥
आसिष दीन्हि सखीं हरषानीं। निज समाज लै गईं सयानीं॥
बिस्वामित्रु मिले पुनि आई। पद सरोज मेले दोउ भाई॥3॥
Sita ji’s friends were overjoyed when Parshuram ji offered Her his blessings. Then, understanding it was time to leave, Her wise companions gently led Her back to join the other women. After that, Guru Vishwamitra approached, greeted Parshuram ji, and had both the Brothers bow down and touch the Sage’s lotus feet.
परशुरामजी ने सीताजी को आशीर्वाद दिया। सखियाँ हर्षित हुईं और (वहाँ अब अधिक देर ठहरना ठीक न समझकर) वे सयानी सखियाँ उनको अपनी मंडली में ले गईं। फिर विश्वामित्रजी आकर मिले और उन्होंने दोनों भाइयों को उनके चरण कमलों पर गिराया॥3॥
रामु लखनु दसरथ के ढोटा। दीन्हि असीस देखि भल जोटा॥
रामहि चितइ रहे थकि लोचन। रूप अपार मार मद मोचन॥4॥
Vishwamitra ji said, “These are Ram and Lakshman, the noble Sons of King Dashrath.” Upon seeing the graceful Brothers, Sage Parshuram blessed them both. As he beheld the divine beauty of Shri Ram, so enchanting that it humbled even the pride of Kaamdev (Cupid), Parshuram ji’s eyes became fixed, and he forgot to blink.
(विश्वामित्रजी ने कहा-) ये राम और लक्ष्मण राजा दशरथ के पुत्र हैं। उनकी सुंदर जोड़ी देखकर परशुरामजी ने आशीर्वाद दिया। कामदेव के भी मद को छुड़ाने वाले श्री रामचन्द्रजी के अपार रूप को देखकर उनके नेत्र थकित (स्तम्भित) हो रहे॥4॥
