मातु पिता गुर प्रभु कै बानी। बिनहिं बिचार करिअ सुभ जानी॥
तुम्ह सब भाँति परम हितकारी। अग्या सिर पर नाथ तुम्हारी॥2॥
…The words of one’s mother, father, teacher, and Lord should always be regarded as auspicious and never questioned. You are supremely benevolent in every way, and thus, Your wish is my command.”
माता, पिता, गुरु और स्वामी की बात को बिना ही विचारे शुभ समझकर करना (मानना) चाहिए। फिर आप तो सब प्रकार से मेरे परम हितकारी हैं। हे नाथ! आपकी आज्ञा मेरे सिर पर है॥2॥
प्रभु तोषेउ सुनि संकर बचना। भक्ति बिबेक धर्म जुत रचना॥
कह प्रभु हर तुम्हार पन रहेऊ। अब उर राखेहु जो हम कहेऊ॥3॥
Listening to Shankar ji’s well-chosen words, filled with devotion, wisdom, and righteousness, Lord Ram was greatly satisfied. He said, “Now that your vow has been fulfilled, hold my words close to your heart.”
शिवजी की भक्ति, ज्ञान और धर्म से युक्त वचन रचना सुनकर प्रभु रामचन्द्रजी संतुष्ट हो गए। प्रभु ने कहा- हे हर! आपकी प्रतिज्ञा पूरी हो गई। अब हमने जो कहा है, उसे हृदय में रखना॥3॥
अंतरधान भए अस भाषी। संकर सोइ मूरति उर राखी॥
तबहिं सप्तरिषि सिव पहिं आए। बोले प्रभु अति बचन सुहाए॥4॥

इस प्रकार कहकर श्री रामचन्द्रजी अन्तर्धान हो गए। शिवजी ने उनकी वह मूर्ति अपने हृदय में रख ली। उसी समय सप्तर्षि शिवजी के पास आए। प्रभु महादेवजी ने उनसे अत्यन्त सुहावने वचन कहे-॥4॥
* पारबती पहिं जाइ तुम्ह प्रेम परिच्छा लेहु।
गिरिहि प्रेरि पठएहु भवन दूरि करेहु संदेहु॥77॥
…”Go to Parvati and test the depth of Her love. Then, encourage the King of the Mountain to bring Her home and dispel all Her doubts.”
आप लोग पार्वती के पास जाकर उनके प्रेम की परीक्षा लीजिए और हिमाचल को कहकर (उन्हें पार्वती को लिवा लाने के लिए भेजिए तथा) पार्वती को घर भिजवाइए और उनके संदेह को दूर कीजिए॥77॥
* रिषिन्ह गौरि देखी तहँ कैसी। मूरतिमंत तपस्या जैसी॥
बोले मुनि सुनु सैलकुमारी। करहु कवन कारन तपु भारी॥1॥

ऋषियों ने (वहाँ जाकर) पार्वती को कैसी देखा, मानो मूर्तिमान् तपस्या ही हो। मुनि बोले- हे शैलकुमारी! सुनो, तुम किसलिए इतना कठोर तप कर रही हो?॥1॥
केहि अवराधहु का तुम्ह चहहू। हम सन सत्य मरमु किन कहहू॥
कहत बचन मनु अति सकुचाई। हँसिहहु सुनि हमारि जड़ताई॥2॥

तुम किसकी आराधना करती हो और क्या चाहती हो? हमसे अपना सच्चा भेद क्यों नहीं कहतीं? (पार्वती ने कहा-) बात कहते मन बहुत सकुचाता है। आप लोग मेरी मूर्खता सुनकर हँसेंगे॥2॥
मनु हठ परा न सुनइ सिखावा। चहत बारि पर भीति उठावा॥
नारद कहा सत्य सोइ जाना। बिनु पंखन्ह हम चहहिं उड़ाना॥3॥

मन ने हठ पकड़ लिया है, वह उपदेश नहीं सुनता और जल पर दीवाल उठाना चाहता है। नारदजी ने जो कह दिया उसे सत्य जानकर मैं बिना ही पाँख के उड़ना चाहती हूँ॥3॥
देखहु मुनि अबिबेकु हमारा। चाहिअ सदा सिवहि भरतारा॥4॥
…O’ Sages, behold my foolishness, I desire the immortal Shiv ji as my husband.”
हे मुनियों! आप मेरा अज्ञान तो देखिए कि मैं सदा शिवजी को ही पति बनाना चाहती हूँ॥4॥
* सुनत बचन बिहसे रिषय गिरिसंभव तव देह।
नारद कर उपदेसु सुनि कहहु बसेउ किसु गेह॥78॥
Hearing Parvati ji’s reply, the Seven Sages laughed and said, “You are the daughter of the Mountain King, and just like a mountain, You remain unmoved and stubborn in Your ways. Tell us, has anyone’s household ever prospered by following Narad’s advice?…
पार्वतीजी की बात सुनते ही ऋषि लोग हँस पड़े और बोले- तुम्हारा शरीर पर्वत से ही तो उत्पन्न हुआ है! भला, कहो तो नारद का उपदेश सुनकर आज तक किसका घर बसा है?॥78॥
* दच्छसुतन्ह उपदेसेन्हि जाई। तिन्ह फिरि भवनु न देखा आई॥
चित्रकेतु कर घरु उन घाला। कनककसिपु कर पुनि अस हाला॥1॥

उन्होंने जाकर दक्ष के पुत्रों को उपदेश दिया था, जिससे उन्होंने फिर लौटकर घर का मुँह भी नहीं देखा। चित्रकेतु के घर को नारद ने ही चौपट किया। फिर यही हाल हिरण्यकशिपु का हुआ॥1॥
नारद सिख जे सुनहिं नर नारी। अवसि होहिं तजि भवनु भिखारी॥
मन कपटी तन सज्जन चीन्हा। आपु सरिस सबही चह कीन्हा॥2॥
…Any man or woman who heeds Narad’s advice is bound to renounce their home and become a beggar, living on alms. Though he appears saintly, his heart is cunning, he wishes to make everyone like himself…
जो स्त्री-पुरुष नारद की सीख सुनते हैं, वे घर-बार छोड़कर अवश्य ही भिखारी हो जाते हैं। उनका मन तो कपटी है, शरीर पर सज्जनों के चिह्न हैं। वे सभी को अपने समान बनाना चाहते हैं॥2॥
तेहि कें बचन मानि बिस्वासा। तुम्ह चाहहु पति सहज उदासा॥
निर्गुन निलज कुबेष कपाली। अकुल अगेह दिगंबर ब्याली॥3॥
…Trusting his words, you desire a husband who is an ascetic by nature, beyond all material qualities, shameless, bearing a dreadful appearance, adorned with skulls, without home or family, unclothed, and draped in snakes?…
उनके वचनों पर विश्वास मानकर तुम ऐसा पति चाहती हो जो स्वभाव से ही उदासीन, गुणहीन, निर्लज्ज, बुरे वेषवाला, नर-कपालों की माला पहनने वाला, कुलहीन, बिना घर-बार का, नंगा और शरीर पर साँपों को लपेटे रखने वाला है॥3॥
कहहु कवन सुखु अस बरु पाएँ। भल भूलिहु ठग के बौराएँ॥
पंच कहें सिवँ सती बिबाही। पुनि अवडेरि मराएन्हि ताही॥4॥

ऐसे वर के मिलने से कहो, तुम्हें क्या सुख होगा? तुम उस ठग (नारद) के बहकावे में आकर खूब भूलीं। पहले पंचों के कहने से शिव ने सती से विवाह किया था, परन्तु फिर उसे त्यागकर मरवा डाला॥॥4॥
* अब सुख सोवत सोचु नहिं भीख मागि भव खाहिं।
सहज एकाकिन्ह के भवन कबहुँ कि नारि खटाहिं॥79॥

अब शिव को कोई चिन्ता नहीं रही, भीख माँगकर खा लेते हैं और सुख से सोते हैं। ऐसे स्वभाव से ही अकेले रहने वालों के घर भी भला क्या कभी स्त्रियाँ टिक सकती हैं?॥79॥
* अजहूँ मानहु कहा हमारा। हम तुम्ह कहुँ बरु नीक बिचारा॥
अति सुंदर सुचि सुखद सुसीला। गावहिं बेद जासु जस लीला॥1॥

दूषन रहित सकल गुन रासी। श्रीपति पुर बैकुंठ निवासी॥
अस बरु तुम्हहि मिलाउब आनी। सुनत बिहसि कह बचन भवानी॥2॥

वह दोषों से रहित, सारे सद्गुणों की राशि, लक्ष्मी का स्वामी और वैकुण्ठपुरी का रहने वाला है। हम ऐसे वर को लाकर तुमसे मिला देंगे। यह सुनते ही पार्वतीजी हँसकर बोलीं-॥2॥
सत्य कहेहु गिरिभव तनु एहा। हठ न छूट छूटै बरु देहा॥
कनकउ पुनि पषान तें होई। जारेहुँ सहजु न परिहर सोई॥3॥

आपने यह सत्य ही कहा कि मेरा यह शरीर पर्वत से उत्पन्न हुआ है, इसलिए हठ नहीं छूटेगा, शरीर भले ही छूट जाए। सोना भी पत्थर से ही उत्पन्न होता है, सो वह जलाए जाने पर भी अपने स्वभाव (सुवर्णत्व) को नहीं छोड़ता॥3॥
नारद बचन न मैं परिहरऊँ। बसउ भवनु उजरउ नहिं डरउँ॥
गुर कें बचन प्रतीति न जेही। सपनेहुँ सुगम न सुख सिधि तेही॥4॥
…Therefore, I will not forsake the words of Narad ji. Whether my home flourishes or falls into ruin, I have no fear. Those who lack faith in their guru’s words can never attain true happiness or success, not even in their dreams…
अतः मैं नारदजी के वचनों को नहीं छोड़ूँगी, चाहे घर बसे या उजड़े, इससे मैं नहीं डरती। जिसको गुरु के वचनों में विश्वास नहीं है, उसको सुख और सिद्धि स्वप्न में भी सुगम नहीं होती॥4॥
* महादेव अवगुन भवन बिष्नु सकल गुन धाम।
जेहि कर मनु रम जाहि सन तेहि तेही सन काम॥80॥

माना कि महादेवजी अवगुणों के भवन हैं और विष्णु समस्त सद्गुणों के धाम हैं, पर जिसका मन जिसमें रम गया, उसको तो उसी से काम है॥80॥
* जौं तुम्ह मिलतेहु प्रथम मुनीसा। सुनतिउँ सिख तुम्हारि धरि सीसा॥
अब मैं जन्मु संभु हित हारा। को गुन दूषन करै बिचारा॥1॥
…”O’ Great Sages, had you met me earlier, I would have heeded your advice with reverence. But now that I have surrendered this life to Lord Shiv, there is no need to deliberate on His virtues or flaws…
हे मुनीश्वरों! यदि आप पहले मिलते, तो मैं आपका उपदेश सिर-माथे रखकर सुनती, परन्तु अब तो मैं अपना जन्म शिवजी के लिए हार चुकी! फिर गुण-दोषों का विचार कौन करे?॥1॥
जौं तुम्हरे हठ हृदयँ बिसेषी। रहि न जाइ बिनु किएँ बरेषी॥
तौ कौतुकिअन्ह आलसु नाहीं। बर कन्या अनेक जग माहीं॥2॥
…If your hearts are set on matchmaking and you cannot refrain from speaking of it, then there are countless eligible brides and grooms in this world. Those who delight in such playful affairs do not remain idle (so please do it elsewhere)…
यदि आपके हृदय में बहुत ही हठ है और विवाह की बातचीत (बरेखी) किए बिना आपसे रहा ही नहीं जाता, तो संसार में वर-कन्या बहुत हैं। खिलवाड़ करने वालों को आलस्य तो होता नहीं (और कहीं जाकर कीजिए)॥2॥
जन्म कोटि लगि रगर हमारी। बरउँ संभु न त रहउँ कुआरी॥
तजउँ न नारद कर उपदेसू। आपु कहहिं सत बार महेसू॥3॥
…My resolve will not waver for millions of years, I will either marry Lord Shambhu or remain a spinster. I will never forsake Narad ji’s advice, even if Lord Mahesh Himself comes and asks me a hundred times to do so.”
मेरा तो करोड़ जन्मों तक यही हठ रहेगा कि या तो शिवजी को वरूँगी, नहीं तो कुमारी ही रहूँगी। स्वयं शिवजी सौ बार कहें, तो भी नारदजी के उपदेश को न छोड़ूँगी॥3॥
मैं पा परउँ कहइ जगदंबा। तुम्ह गृह गवनहु भयउ बिलंबा॥
देखि प्रेमु बोले मुनि ग्यानी। जय जय जगदंबिके भवानी॥4॥
The Mother of the Universe, Jagdambika (Parvati ji) then said, “I bow at your feet, O’ Sages. Please return to your homes, for it is getting late.” Seeing Her unwavering devotion to Lord Shiv, the wise Seven Sages joyfully hailed, “Jai, Jai Jagdambika Bhawani!…
जगज्जननी पार्वतीजी ने फिर कहा कि मैं आपके पैरों पड़ती हूँ। आप अपने घर जाइए, बहुत देर हो गई। (शिवजी में पार्वतीजी का ऐसा) प्रेम देखकर ज्ञानी मुनि बोले- हे जगज्जननी! हे भवानी! आपकी जय हो! जय हो!!॥4॥
* तुम्ह माया भगवान सिव सकल जगत पितु मातु।
नाइ चरन सिर मुनि चले पुनि पुनि हरषत गातु॥81॥
…You are Maya, the divine illusory energy, and Shiv ji is the Lord. Together, you are the Mother and Father of the entire universe.” Bowing their heads at Parvati ji’s feet, they departed, elated, with a divine thrill coursing through their limbs again and again.
आप माया हैं और शिवजी भगवान हैं। आप दोनों समस्त जगत के माता-पिता हैं। (यह कहकर) मुनि पार्वतीजी के चरणों में सिर नवाकर चल दिए। उनके शरीर बार-बार पुलकित हो रहे थे॥81॥
* जाइ मुनिन्ह हिमवंतु पठाए। करि बिनती गिरजहिं गृह ल्याए॥
बहुरि सप्तरिषि सिव पहिं जाई। कथा उमा कै सकल सुनाई॥1॥
The Seven Sages then went to King Himvan and sent him to Parvati ji. He lovingly persuaded Girija ji and brought Her home. Thereafter, the sages proceeded to Lord Shiv and narrated the entire episode of Goddess Uma.
मुनियों ने जाकर हिमवान् को पार्वतीजी के पास भेजा और वे विनती करके उनको घर ले आए, फिर सप्तर्षियों ने शिवजी के पास जाकर उनको पार्वतीजी की सारी कथा सुनाई॥1॥
भए मगन सिव सुनत सनेहा। हरषि सप्तरिषि गवने गेहा॥
मनु थिर करि तब संभु सुजाना। लगे करन रघुनायक ध्याना॥2॥
Hearing of Goddess Uma’s unwavering devotion, Lord Shiv felt ecstatic. The Seven Sages joyfully returned to their abode in Brahmalok. The all-wise Lord Shiv then steadied His mind and began meditating upon the Lord Raghunayak.
पार्वतीजी का प्रेम सुनते ही शिवजी आनन्दमग्न हो गए। सप्तर्षि प्रसन्न होकर अपने घर (ब्रह्मलोक) को चले गए। तब सुजान शिवजी मन को स्थिर करके श्री रघुनाथजी का ध्यान करने लगे॥2॥
तारकु असुर भयउ तेहि काला। भुज प्रताप बल तेज बिसाला॥
तेहिं सब लोक लोकपति जीते। भए देव सुख संपति रीते॥3॥
During that time, there was a mighty demon named Taarak, renowned for his bravery and glory, with his fame spreading far and wide. He conquered all the Lokpals, the Guardians of the Universe, including Heaven, Earth, and the Subterranean realm, leaving the Demigods bereft of their joy and prosperity.
उसी समय तारक नाम का असुर हुआ, जिसकी भुजाओं का बल, प्रताप और तेज बहुत बड़ा था। उसने सब लोक और लोकपालों को जीत लिया, सब देवता सुख और सम्पत्ति से रहित हो गए॥3॥
अजर अमर सो जीति न जाई। हारे सुर करि बिबिध लराई॥
तब बिरंचि सन जाइ पुकारे। देखे बिधि सब देव दुखारे॥4॥

वह अजर-अमर था, इसलिए किसी से जीता नहीं जाता था। देवता उसके साथ बहुत तरह की लड़ाइयाँ लड़कर हार गए। तब उन्होंने ब्रह्माजी के पास जाकर पुकार मचाई। ब्रह्माजी ने सब देवताओं को दुःखी देखा॥4॥
* सब सन कहा बुझाइ बिधि दनुज निधन तब होइ।
संभु सुक्र संभूत सुत एहि जीतइ रन सोइ॥82॥

ब्रह्माजी ने सबको समझाकर कहा- इस दैत्य की मृत्यु तब होगी जब शिवजी के वीर्य से पुत्र उत्पन्न हो, इसको युद्ध में वही जीतेगा॥82॥
* मोर कहा सुनि करहु उपाई। होइहि ईस्वर करिहि सहाई॥
सतीं जो तजी दच्छ मख देहा। जनमी जाइ हिमाचल गेहा॥1॥

तेहिं तपु कीन्ह संभु पति लागी। सिव समाधि बैठे सबु त्यागी॥
जदपि अहइ असमंजस भारी। तदपि बात एक सुनहु हमारी॥2॥

उन्होंने शिवजी को पति बनाने के लिए तप किया है, इधर शिवजी सब छोड़-छाड़कर समाधि लगा बैठे हैं। यद्यपि है तो बड़े असमंजस की बात, तथापि मेरी एक बात सुनो॥2॥
पठवहु कामु जाइ सिव पाहीं। करै छोभु संकर मन माहीं॥
तब हम जाइ सिवहि सिर नाई। करवाउब बिबाहु बरिआई॥3॥

तुम जाकर कामदेव को शिवजी के पास भेजो, वह शिवजी के मन में क्षोभ उत्पन्न करे (उनकी समाधि भंग करे)। तब हम जाकर शिवजी के चरणों में सिर रख देंगे और जबरदस्ती (उन्हें राजी करके) विवाह करा देंगे॥3॥
एहि बिधि भलेहिं देवहित होई। मत अति नीक कहइ सबु कोई॥
अस्तुति सुरन्ह कीन्हि अति हेतू। प्रगटेउ बिषमबान झषकेतू॥4॥
…”By following this plan, the interests of the Demigods will be secured.” Everyone agreed, saying, “This is a brilliant idea.” The Demigods then praised Kaamdev with heartfelt prayers for their own benefit. In response, Kaamdev, whose flag bears the emblem of a fish, appeared, armed with his five swift and formidable arrows.
इस प्रकार से भले ही देवताओं का हित हो (और तो कोई उपाय नहीं है) सबने कहा- यह सम्मति बहुत अच्छी है। फिर देवताओं ने बड़े प्रेम से स्तुति की। तब विषम (पाँच) बाण धारण करने वाला और मछली के चिह्नयुक्त ध्वजा वाला कामदेव प्रकट हुआ॥4॥
* सुरन्ह कही निज बिपति सब सुनि मन कीन्ह बिचार।
संभु बिरोध न कुसल मोहि बिहसि कहेउ अस मार॥83॥

देवताओं ने कामदेव से अपनी सारी विपत्ति कही। सुनकर कामदेव ने मन में विचार किया और हँसकर देवताओं से यों कहा कि शिवजी के साथ विरोध करने में मेरी कुशल नहीं है॥83॥
*तदपि करब मैं काजु तुम्हारा। श्रुति कह परम धरम उपकारा॥
पर हित लागि तजइ जो देही। संतत संत प्रसंसहिं तेही॥1॥
…However, I will carry out your request, for the Vedas declare that serving others is the highest duty. One who sacrifices his own life for the welfare of others is forever praised by the wise and the saintly.”
तथापि मैं तुम्हारा काम तो करूँगा, क्योंकि वेद दूसरे के उपकार को परम धर्म कहते हैं। जो दूसरे के हित के लिए अपना शरीर त्याग देता है, संत सदा उसकी बड़ाई करते हैं॥1॥
अस कहि चलेउ सबहि सिरु नाई। सुमन धनुष कर सहित सहाई॥
चलत मार अस हृदयँ बिचारा। सिव बिरोध ध्रुब मरनु हमारा॥2॥
After saying this and bowing to everyone, Kaamdev, accompanied by his attendants, set out with his floral bow. As he departed, he reflected in his heart that opposing Lord Shiv would surely lead to his own demise.
यों कह और सबको सिर नवाकर कामदेव अपने पुष्प के धनुष को हाथ में लेकर (वसन्तादि) सहायकों के साथ चला। चलते समय कामदेव ने हृदय में ऐसा विचार किया कि शिवजी के साथ विरोध करने से मेरा मरण निश्चित है॥2॥
तब आपन प्रभाउ बिस्तारा। निज बस कीन्ह सकल संसारा॥
कोपेउ जबहिं बारिचरकेतू। छन महुँ मिटे सकल श्रुति सेतू॥3॥
Then, he unleashed his immense power, casting his influence over the entire world. As the God of Love, Kaamdev, whose flag bears the emblem of a fish, displayed his fury, the sacred codes of the Vedas vanished within moments.
तब उसने अपना प्रभाव फैलाया और समस्त संसार को अपने वश में कर लिया। जिस समय उस मछली के चिह्न की ध्वजा वाले कामदेव ने कोप किया, उस समय क्षणभर में ही वेदों की सारी मर्यादा मिट गई॥3॥
ब्रह्मचर्ज ब्रत संजम नाना। धीरज धरम ग्यान बिग्याना॥
सदाचार जप जोग बिरागा। सभय बिबेक कटकु सबु भागा॥4॥
All the virtues in the army of wisdom: celibacy, penance, self-restraint, control of the senses and mind, scriptural discipline, patience, righteousness, knowledge, wisdom, noble conduct, chanting, meditation, and dispassion, were shaken with fear and fled in panic.
ब्रह्मचर्य, नियम, नाना प्रकार के संयम, धीरज, धर्म, ज्ञान, विज्ञान, सदाचार, जप, योग, वैराग्य आदि विवेक की सारी सेना डरकर भाग गई॥4॥
छंद :
* भागेउ बिबेकु सहाय सहित सो सुभट संजुग महि मुरे।
सदग्रंथ पर्बत कंदरन्हि महुँ जाइ तेहि अवसर दुरे॥
होनिहार का करतार को रखवार जग खरभरु परा।
दुइ माथ केहि रतिनाथ जेहि कहुँ कोपि कर धनु सरु धरा॥
Wisdom fled along with his attendants, and his once-valiant soldiers turned their backs on the battlefield. Seeking refuge, they hid within mountain caves, taking the form of sacred Scriptures. Chaos spread across the world as beings trembled in fear, wondering, “O’ Lord, what will happen now? Who will come to our rescue? Who is this two-headed being for whom Kaamdev, the husband of Rati, has taken up his bow and arrows in fury?”
विवेक अपने सहायकों सहित भाग गया, उसके योद्धा रणभूमि से पीठ दिखा गए। उस समय वे सब सद्ग्रन्थ रूपी पर्वत की कन्दराओं में जा छिपे (अर्थात ज्ञान, वैराग्य, संयम, नियम, सदाचारादि ग्रंथों में ही लिखे रह गए, उनका आचरण छूट गया)। सारे जगत् में खलबली मच गई (और सब कहने लगे) हे विधाता! अब क्या होने वाला है? हमारी रक्षा कौन करेगा? ऐसा दो सिर वाला कौन है, जिसके लिए रति के पति कामदेव ने कोप करके हाथ में धनुष-बाण उठाया है?
*जे सजीव जग अचर चर नारि पुरुष अस नाम।
ते निज निज मरजाद तजि भए सकल बस काम॥84॥
All beings, both male and female, whether movable or immovable, abandoned their modesty and fell under the sway of lust.
जगत में स्त्री-पुरुष संज्ञा वाले जितने चर-अचर प्राणी थे, वे सब अपनी-अपनी मर्यादा छोड़कर काम के वश में हो गए॥84॥
* सब के हृदयँ मदन अभिलाषा। लता निहारि नवहिं तरु साखा॥
नदीं उमगि अंबुधि कहुँ धाईं। संगम करहिं तलाव तलाईं॥1॥
Lustful desire took hold of everyone’s hearts. The branches of trees bent low at the sight of embracing creepers, rivers eagerly surged forward to meet the ocean, and small ponds and lakes merged into one another in longing.
सबके हृदय में काम की इच्छा हो गई। लताओं (बेलों) को देखकर वृक्षों की डालियाँ झुकने लगीं। नदियाँ उमड़-उमड़कर समुद्र की ओर दौड़ीं और ताल-तलैयाँ भी आपस में संगम करने (मिलने-जुलने) लगीं॥1॥
जहँ असि दसा जड़न्ह कै बरनी। को कहि सकइ सचेतन करनी॥
पसु पच्छी नभ जल थल चारी। भए काम बस समय बिसारी॥2॥
If even the inanimate world was overcome with such desire, what can be said of the actions of conscious beings (birds, animals, and humans)? Creatures roaming the earth, sky, and water lost all sense of time and fell prey to lust.
जब जड़ (वृक्ष, नदी आदि) की यह दशा कही गई, तब चेतन जीवों की करनी कौन कह सकता है? आकाश, जल और पृथ्वी पर विचरने वाले सारे पशु-पक्षी (अपने संयोग का) समय भुलाकर काम के वश में हो गए॥2॥
मदन अंध ब्याकुल सब लोका। निसि दिनु नहिं अवलोकहिं कोका॥
देव दनुज नर किंनर ब्याला। प्रेत पिसाच भूत बेताला॥3॥
All the worlds were blinded by lust and grew restless. The Chakwas (Brahmini ducks, which rejoice at sunrise and grieve at moonrise) lost all sense of day and night. Demigods, demons, humans, kinnars, serpents, spirits, ghosts, fiends, vampires, and all other beings…
सब लोक कामान्ध होकर व्याकुल हो गए। चकवा-चकवी रात-दिन नहीं देखते। देव, दैत्य, मनुष्य, किन्नर, सर्प, प्रेत, पिशाच, भूत, बेताल-॥3॥
इन्ह कै दसा न कहेउँ बखानी। सदा काम के चेरे जानी॥
सिद्ध बिरक्त महामुनि जोगी। तेपि कामबस भए बियोगी॥4॥
…their condition is beyond words, for they are ever enslaved by sensual desires. Even realized sages, detached ascetics, renowned saints, and yogis, under the powerful influence of Kaamdev, began feeling lustful toward the opposite sex.
ये तो सदा ही काम के गुलाम हैं, यह समझकर मैंने इनकी दशा का वर्णन नहीं किया। सिद्ध, विरक्त, महामुनि और महान् योगी भी काम के वश होकर योगरहित या स्त्री के विरही हो गए॥4॥
छंद :
* भए कामबस जोगीस तापस पावँरन्हि की को कहै।
देखहिं चराचर नारिमय जे ब्रह्ममय देखत रहे॥
अबला बिलोकहिं पुरुषमय जगु पुरुष सब अबलामयं।
दुइ दंड भरि ब्रह्मांड भीतर कामकृत कौतुक अयं॥
When even yogis and ascetics became overwhelmed by lust, what could be expected of ordinary sinners? The saintly souls, who once perceived all of creation as an extension of the Supreme Divine, began seeing the world filled with women, while all women saw it teeming with men. This enchanting illusion woven by Kaamdev pervaded the entire Universe for nearly an hour.
जब योगीश्वर और तपस्वी भी काम के वश हो गए, तब पामर मनुष्यों की कौन कहे? जो समस्त चराचर जगत को ब्रह्ममय देखते थे, वे अब उसे स्त्रीमय देखने लगे। स्त्रियाँ सारे संसार को पुरुषमय देखने लगीं और पुरुष उसे स्त्रीमय देखने लगे। दो घड़ी तक सारे ब्राह्मण्ड के अंदर कामदेव का रचा हुआ यह कौतुक (तमाशा) रहा।
* धरी न काहूँ धीर सब के मन मनसिज हरे।
जे राखे रघुबीर ते उबरे तेहि काल महुँ॥85॥
No one could maintain their patience, as Kaamdev had completely captivated their hearts. Only those whom Shri Raghuveer protected were spared.
किसी ने भी हृदय में धैर्य नहीं धारण किया, कामदेव ने सबके मन हर लिए। श्री रघुनाथजी ने जिनकी रक्षा की, केवल वे ही उस समय बचे रहे॥85॥
*उभय घरी अस कौतुक भयऊ। जौ लगि कामु संभु पहिं गयऊ॥
सिवहि बिलोकि ससंकेउ मारू। भयउ जथाथिति सबु संसारू॥1॥
This playful act lasted for forty-eight minutes until Kaamdev approached Lord Shambhu. The moment he beheld Lord Shiv, fear overtook him, and the entire creation instantly reverted to its original state, as if nothing had ever changed.
दो घड़ी तक ऐसा तमाशा हुआ, जब तक कामदेव शिवजी के पास पहुँच गया। शिवजी को देखकर कामदेव डर गया, तब सारा संसार फिर जैसा-का तैसा स्थिर हो गया॥1॥
भए तुरत सब जीव सुखारे। जिमि मद उतरि गएँ मतवारे॥
रुद्रहि देखि मदन भय माना। दुराधरष दुर्गम भगवाना॥2॥
At once, all beings felt relieved, much like a drunken person regains clarity when the effects of intoxication fade. Upon seeing Lord Rudra (Shiv ji), Kaamdev was struck with terror. Lord Shiv is the Supreme Being, unconquerable and beyond human comprehension.
तुरंत ही सब जीव वैसे ही सुखी हो गए, जैसे मतवाले (नशा पिए हुए) लोग मद (नशा) उतर जाने पर सुखी होते हैं। दुराधर्ष (जिनको पराजित करना अत्यन्त ही कठिन है) और दुर्गम (जिनका पार पाना कठिन है) भगवान (सम्पूर्ण ऐश्वर्य, धर्म, यश, श्री, ज्ञान और वैराग्य रूप छह ईश्वरीय गुणों से युक्त) रुद्र (महाभयंकर) शिवजी को देखकर कामदेव भयभीत हो गया॥2॥
फिरत लाज कछु करि नहिं जाई। मरनु ठानि मन रचेसि उपाई॥
प्रगटेसि तुरत रुचिर रितुराजा। कुसुमित नव तरु राजि बिराजा॥3॥
Kaamdev felt ashamed to retreat and found himself powerless to act. Accepting that his end was near, he devised a plan. Without delay, he summoned the enchanting season of Spring, the King of all Seasons, causing rows of splendid new trees to appear, adorned with fresh blossoms.
लौट जाने में लज्जा मालूम होती है और करते कुछ बनता नहीं। आखिर मन में मरने का निश्चय करके उसने उपाय रचा। तुरंत ही सुंदर ऋतुराज वसन्त को प्रकट किया। फूले हुए नए-नए वृक्षों की कतारें सुशोभित हो गईं॥3॥
बन उपबन बापिका तड़ागा। परम सुभग सब दिसा बिभागा॥
जहँ तहँ जनु उमगत अनुरागा। देखि मुएहुँ मन मनसिज जागा॥4॥
Forests, gardens, ponds, lakes, all the ten directions, and each realm of the cosmos became mesmerizingly beautiful. Love flourished everywhere, rekindling desire even in lifeless hearts.
वन-उपवन, बावली-तालाब और सब दिशाओं के विभाग परम सुंदर हो गए। जहाँ-तहाँ मानो प्रेम उम़ड़ रहा है, जिसे देखकर मरे मनों में भी कामदेव जाग उठा॥4॥
