* केकीकण्ठाभनीलं सुरवरविलसद्विप्रपादाब्जचिह्नं
शोभाढ्यं पीतवस्त्रं सरसिजनयनं सर्वदा सुप्रसन्नम्।
पाणौ नाराचचापं कपिनिकरयुतं बन्धुना सेव्यमानं।
नौमीड्यं जानकीशं रघुवरमनिशं पुष्पकारूढरामम्॥1।
I constantly extol Shri Ramchandra, the praiseworthy Lord of Janaki ji, whose greenish-blue complexion resembles a peacock’s neck. He is the greatest of all Gods, adorned with the mark of the divine feet of Sage Brighu upon His chest, radiant and clad in yellow garments, with lotus-shaped eyes and an ever-cheerful countenance, the crest jewel of Raghu dynasty, holding a bow and arrow in His hands, surrounded by a host of monkeys, served by His younger brother Shri Lakshman, and seated upon the Pushpak plane.
भावार्थ:-मोर के कण्ठ की आभा के समान (हरिताभ) नीलवर्ण, देवताओं में श्रेष्ठ, ब्राह्मण (भृगुजी) के चरणकमल के चिह्न से सुशोभित, शोभा से पूर्ण, पीताम्बरधारी, कमल नेत्र, सदा परम प्रसन्न, हाथों में बाण और धनुष धारण किए हुए, वानर समूह से युक्त भाई लक्ष्मणजी से सेवित, स्तुति किए जाने योग्य, श्री जानकीजी के पति, रघुकुल श्रेष्ठ, पुष्पक विमान पर सवार श्री रामचंद्रजी को मैं निरंतर नमस्कार करता हूँ॥1॥
* कोसलेन्द्रपदकन्जमंजुलौ कोमलावजमहेशवन्दितौ।
जानकीकरसरोजलालितौ चिन्तकस्य मनभृंगसंगिनौ॥2॥
The charming and delicate feet of Shri Ramchandra, the Lord of Ayodhya, are adored by Lord Brahma and the great Lord Mahesh (Shiv ji). They are gently caressed by the lotus-like hands of Sita ji and remain the constant object of meditation for the bee-like minds of His devotees.
भावार्थ:-कोसलपुरी के स्वामी श्री रामचंद्रजी के सुंदर और कोमल दोनों चरणकमल ब्रह्माजी और शिवजी द्वारा वन्दित हैं, श्री जानकीजी के करकमलों से दुलराए हुए हैं और चिन्तन करने वाले के मन रूपी भौंरे के नित्य संगी हैं अर्थात् चिन्तन करने वालों का मन रूपी भ्रमर सदा उन चरणकमलों में बसा रहता है॥2॥
* कुन्दइन्दुदरगौरसुन्दरं अम्बिकापतिमभीष्टसिद्धिदम्।
कारुणीककलकन्जलोचनं नौमि शंकरमनंगमोचनम्॥3॥
I bow to the all-merciful Lord Shankar (Shiv ji), whose very fair complexion resembles jasmine flowers, the Moon, and the conch. He is the beloved of Goddess Ambika (Parvati ji), the Mother of the Universe, and the bestower of desired boons . With beautiful lotus-like eyes, He liberates us from the clutches of Kaamdev (the Demigod of material and sensual desires).
भावार्थ:-कुन्द के फूल, चंद्रमा और शंख के समान सुंदर गौरवर्ण, जगज्जननी श्री पार्वतीजी के पति, वान्छित फल के देने वाले, (दुखियों पर सदा), दया करने वाले, सुंदर कमल के समान नेत्र वाले, कामदेव से छुड़ाने वाले (कल्याणकारी) श्री शंकरजी को मैं नमस्कार करता हूँ॥3॥
* रहा एक दिन अवधि कर अति आरत पुर लोग।
जहँ तहँ सोचहिं नारि नर कृस तन राम बियोग॥
Only one day remained of the fixed term of exile, and the entire city was overcome with deep anguish and impatience. Men and women alike, their bodies grown thin and frail through the pain of separation from Shri Ram, wandered here and there, absorbed in anxious reflection, (wondering why Shri Ram had not yet returned).
भावार्थ:-श्री रामजी के लौटने की अवधि का एक ही दिन बाकी रह गया, अतएव नगर के लोग बहुत आतुर (अधीर) हो रहे हैं। राम के वियोग में दुबले हुए स्त्री-पुरुष जहाँ-तहाँ सोच (विचार) कर रहे हैं (कि क्या बात है श्री रामजी क्यों नहीं आए)।
* सगुन होहिं सुंदर सकल मन प्रसन्न सब केर।
प्रभु आगवन जनाव जनु नगर रम्य चहुँ फेर॥
Meanwhile, auspicious omens began to appear, filling everyone’s hearts with joy. The city of Ayodhya itself seemed to glow, as if proclaiming the Lord’s imminent arrival.
भावार्थ:-इतने में सब सुंदर शकुन होने लगे और सबके मन प्रसन्न हो गए। नगर भी चारों ओर से रमणीक हो गया। मानो ये सब के सब चिह्न प्रभु के (शुभ) आगमन को जना रहे हैं।
* कौसल्यादि मातु सब मन अनंद अस होइ।
आयउ प्रभु श्री अनुज जुत कहन चहत अब कोइ॥
Mother Kaushalya and the other mothers were filled with joy, their hearts brimming with the hope that someone might soon announce the arrival of the Lord, along with Sita ji and His younger brother Lakshman ji.
भावार्थ:-कौसल्या आदि सब माताओं के मन में ऐसा आनंद हो रहा है जैसे अभी कोई कहना ही चाहता है कि सीताजी और लक्ष्मणजी सहित प्रभु श्री रामचंद्रजी आ गए।
* भरत नयन भुज दच्छिन फरकत बारहिं बार।
जानि सगुन मन हरष अति लागे करन बिचार॥
Bharat ji’s right eye and arm throbbed repeatedly, and recognizing this as an auspicious omen, he was filled with immense joy. Yet the very next moment, he began to ponder that…
भावार्थ:-भरतजी की दाहिनी आँख और दाहिनी भुजा बार-बार फड़क रही है। इसे शुभ शकुन जानकर उनके मन में अत्यंत हर्ष हुआ और वे विचार करने लगे-
* रहेउ एक दिन अवधि अधारा। समुझत मन दुख भयउ अपारा॥
कारन कवन नाथ नहिं आयउ। जानि कुटिल किधौं मोहि बिसरायउ॥1॥
…Only one day remained of Shri Ram’s exile in the form of life-sustaining term for Shri Bharat. As Bharat ji understood this, his mind was filled with immeasurable sorrow. He wondered what cause there could be that his Lord had not come, and feared that the Lord, knowing him to be deceitful, might have forgotten him.
भावार्थ:-प्राणों की आधार रूप अवधि का एक ही दिन शेष रह गया। यह सोचते ही भरतजी के मन में अपार दुःख हुआ। क्या कारण हुआ कि नाथ नहीं आए? प्रभु ने कुटिल जानकर मुझे कहीं भुला तो नहीं दिया?॥1॥
* अहह धन्य लछिमन बड़भागी। राम पदारबिंदु अनुरागी॥
कपटी कुटिल मोहि प्रभु चीन्हा। ताते नाथ संग नहिं लीन्हा॥2॥
He wondered, “How is it that the Lord has not yet returned? Has He forgotten me, thinking me deceitful? Ah, blessed is Lakshman, he is truly fortunate and ever devoted to the lotus feet of Shri Ram. The Lord must have known me to be cunning and deceitful, and that is why He did not take me with Him,…
भावार्थ:-अहा हा! लक्ष्मण बड़े धन्य एवं बड़भागी हैं, जो श्री रामचंद्रजी के चरणारविन्द के प्रेमी हैं (अर्थात् उनसे अलग नहीं हुए)। मुझे तो प्रभु ने कपटी और कुटिल पहचान लिया, इसी से नाथ ने मुझे साथ नहीं लिया॥2॥
* जौं करनी समुझै प्रभु मोरी। नहिं निस्तार कलप सत कोरी॥
जन अवगुन प्रभु मान न काऊ। दीन बंधु अति मृदुल सुभाऊ॥3॥
…and why would it not be so? If the Lord were to recall my actions, there would be no redemption for me even after countless lifetimes. Yet the Lord never holds the faults of His devotees against them, He is a friend of the poor and possesses an exceedingly gentle nature…
भावार्थ:-(बात भी ठीक ही है, क्योंकि) यदि प्रभु मेरी करनी पर ध्यान दें तो सौ करोड़ (असंख्य) कल्पों तक भी मेरा निस्तार (छुटकारा) नहीं हो सकता (परंतु आशा इतनी ही है कि), प्रभु सेवक का अवगुण कभी नहीं मानते। वे दीनबंधु हैं और अत्यंत ही कोमल स्वभाव के हैं॥3॥
* मोरे जियँ भरोस दृढ़ सोई। मिलिहहिं राम सगुन सुभ होई॥
बीतें अवधि रहहिं जौं प्राना। अधम कवन जग मोहि समाना॥4॥
…I hold a firm conviction in my heart that Shri Ram will surely meet me soon, for the omens are so auspicious. But if I were to remain alive even after the end of the Lord’s exile, who could be more wretched than I?”
भावार्थ:-अतएव मेरे हृदय में ऐसा पक्का भरोसा है कि श्री रामजी अवश्य मिलेंगे, (क्योंकि) मुझे शकुन बड़े शुभ हो रहे हैं, किंतु अवधि बीत जाने पर यदि मेरे प्राण रह गए तो जगत् में मेरे समान नीच कौन होगा? ॥4॥
* राम बिरह सागर महँ भरत मगन मन होत।
बिप्र रूप धरि पवनसुत आइ गयउ जनु पोत॥1क॥
Bharat ji’s heart was drowning in an ocean of grief due to his separation from Lord Ram, when Hanuman ji, disguised as a young Brahmin student, arrived like a rescuing boat to save him.
श्री रामजी के विरह समुद्र में भरतजी का मन डूब रहा था, उसी समय पवनपुत्र हनुमान्जी ब्राह्मण का रूप धरकर इस प्रकार आ गए, मानो (उन्हें डूबने से बचाने के लिए) नाव आ गई हो॥1क॥
बैठे देखि कुसासन जटा मुकुट कृस गात॥
राम राम रघुपति जपत स्रवत नयन जलजात॥1ख॥
Hanuman ji saw Bharat ji seated upon a mat of kusa grass, his hair coiled into a bun atop his head. His body was frail, and as he softly chanted “Shri Ram, Shri Ram, Shri Raghupati…,” tears flowed continuously from his lotus-like eyes.
हनुमान्जी ने दुर्बल शरीर भरतजी को जटाओं का मुकुट बनाए, राम! राम! रघुपति! जपते और कमल के समान नेत्रों से (प्रेमाश्रुओं) का जल बहाते कुश के आसन पर बैठे देखा॥1ख॥
* देखत हनूमान अति हरषेउ। पुलक गात लोचन जल बरषेउ॥
मन महँ बहुत भाँति सुख मानी। बोलेउ श्रवन सुधा सम बानी॥1॥
Hanuman ji was overwhelmed with delight upon seeing Shri Bharat, his body thrilling with emotion as tears of affection flowed from his eyes. His heart was filled with deep gratification, and he spoke to Bharat ji in words that were like nectar to his ears,…
उन्हें देखते ही हनुमान्जी अत्यंत हर्षित हुए। उनका शरीर पुलकित हो गया, नेत्रों से (प्रेमाश्रुओं का) जल बरसने लगा। मन में बहुत प्रकार से सुख मानकर वे कानों के लिए अमृत के समान वाणी बोले-॥1॥
जासु बिरहँ सोचहु दिन राती। रटहु निरंतर गुन गन पाँती॥
रघुकुल तिलक सुजन सुखदाता। आयउ कुसल देव मुनि त्राता॥2॥
…”The One whose absence you grieve day and night, whose name and virtues you ceaselessly recount, that all-wise glory of the Raghu clan, who brings joy to the saintly and protects the Demigods and Sages, has returned safely…
जिनके विरह में आप दिन-रात सोच करते (घुलते) रहते हैं और जिनके गुण समूहों की पंक्तियों को आप निरंतर रटते रहते हैं, वे ही रघुकुल के तिलक, सज्जनों को सुख देने वाले और देवताओं तथा मुनियों के रक्षक श्री रामजी सकुशल आ गए॥2॥
रिपु रन जीति सुजस सुर गावत। सीता सहित अनुज प्रभु आवत॥
सुनत बचन बिसरे सब दूखा। तृषावंत जिमि पाइ पियूषा॥3॥
…after defeating the enemy in battle. With the Demigods extolling His glorious deeds, Shri Ram is on His way, accompanied by Sita ji and His younger brother Lakshman ji.” Hearing the words of Hanuman ji, Bharat ji forgot all his sorrow, just as a parched traveller forgets his distress upon finding nectar to drink.
शत्रु को रण में जीतकर सीताजी और लक्ष्मणजी सहित प्रभु आ रहे हैं, देवता उनका सुंदर यश गा रहे हैं। ये वचन सुनते ही (भरतजी को) सारे दुःख भूल गए। जैसे प्यासा आदमी अमृत पाकर प्यास के दुःख को भूल जाए॥3॥
को तुम्ह तात कहाँ ते आए। मोहि परम प्रिय बचन सुनाए॥
मारुत सुत मैं कपि हनुमाना। नामु मोर सुनु कृपानिधाना॥4॥
Bharat ji replied, “Who are you, brother, and from where have you come with this most pleasing news?” Hanuman ji said, “O’ Ocean of mercy, listen, I am the son of the Wind God, I belong to the monkey clan, Hanuman is my name,…
(भरतजी ने पूछा-) हे तात! तुम कौन हो? और कहाँ से आए हो? (जो) तुमने मुझको (ये) परम प्रिय (अत्यंत आनंद देने वाले) वचन सुनाए। (हनुमान्जी ने कहा) हे कृपानिधान! सुनिए, मैं पवन का पुत्र और जाति का वानर हूँ, मेरा नाम हनुमान् है॥4॥
दीनबंधु रघुपति कर किंकर। सुनत भरत भेंटेउ उठि सादर॥
मिलत प्रेम नहिं हृदयँ समाता। नयन स्रवत जल पुलकित गाता॥5॥
…and I am a humble servant of the friend of the piteous, Shri Raghupati.” Hearing the words of Hanuman ji, Bharat ji rose at once and embraced him with deep affection. The warmth of that embrace was overwhelming, his heart unable to contain its joy, tears streamed from his eyes, and his entire body was covered with goosebumps.
मैं दीनों के बंधु श्री रघुनाथजी का दास हूँ। यह सुनते ही भरतजी उठकर आदरपूर्वक हनुमान्जी से गले लगकर मिले। मिलते समय प्रेम हृदय में नहीं समाता। नेत्रों से (आनंद और प्रेम के आँसुओं का) जल बहने लगा और शरीर पुलकित हो गया॥5॥
कपि तव दरस सकल दुख बीते। मिले आजु मोहि राम पिरीते॥
बार बार बूझी कुसलाता। तो कहुँ देउँ काह सुन भ्राता॥6॥
Bharat ji said, “All my sorrows have vanished at the sight of you, O’ Hanuman. In embracing you today, I feel as though I have embraced my beloved Shri Ram Himself.” He repeatedly asked about Shri Ram’s well-being and then said, “Listen, brother, what can I offer you for bringing me such joyous news?…
(भरतजी ने कहा-) हे हनुमान्- तुम्हारे दर्शन से मेरे समस्त दुःख समाप्त हो गए (दुःखों का अंत हो गया)। (तुम्हारे रूप में) आज मुझे प्यारे रामजी ही मिल गए। भरतजी ने बार-बार कुशल पूछी (और कहा-) हे भाई! सुनो, (इस शुभ संवाद के बदले में) तुम्हें क्या दूँ?॥6॥
एहि संदेस सरिस जग माहीं। करि बिचार देखेउँ कछु नाहीं॥
नाहिन तात उरिन मैं तोही। अब प्रभु चरित सुनावहु मोही॥7॥
…I have reflected deeply and realised that there is nothing in the entire world more precious than what you have brought. O’ Brother, I can never repay your debt. Now please tell me of the Lord’s well-being and His divine exploits.”
इस संदेश के समान (इसके बदले में देने लायक पदार्थ) जगत् में कुछ भी नहीं है, मैंने यह विचार कर देख लिया है। (इसलिए) हे तात! मैं तुमसे किसी प्रकार भी उऋण नहीं हो सकता। अब मुझे प्रभु का चरित्र (हाल) सुनाओ॥7॥
तब हनुमंत नाइ पद माथा। कहे सकल रघुपति गुन गाथा॥
कहु कपि कबहुँ कृपाल गोसाईं। सुमिरहिं मोहि दास की नाईं॥8॥
Then Hanuman ji bowed his head at the feet of Shri Bharat and narrated the entire sequence of the meritorious deeds of Shri Raghupati. Bharat ji then asked, “Tell me, Hanuman, does the merciful Lord of the senses ever remember me as one of His servants?”
तब हनुमान्जी ने भरतजी के चरणों में मस्तक नवाकर श्री रघुनाथजी की सारी गुणगाथा कही। (भरतजी ने पूछा-) हे हनुमान्! कहो, कृपालु स्वामी श्री रामचंद्रजी कभी मुझे अपने दास की तरह याद भी करते हैं?॥8॥
छंद :
* निज दास ज्यों रघुबंसभूषन कबहुँ मम सुमिरन कर्यो।
सुनि भरत बचन बिनीत अति कपि पुलकि तन चरनन्हि पर्यो॥
रघुबीर निज मुख जासु गुन गन कहत अग जग नाथ जो।
काहे न होइ बिनीत परम पुनीत सदगुन सिंधु सो॥
…“Did the jewel of Raghu’s clan ever remember me as His servant?” Hearing this humble question of Bharat ji, Hanuman ji’s body thrilled with joy, and he fell reverently at Bharat ji’s feet. Hanuman ji reflected within his heart, “When the Lord of all animate and inanimate creation, Shri Raghuveer, Himself speaks of someone’s virtues with His own sacred lips, how could that person not be humble, deeply devoted, and an ocean of noble qualities?”
रघुवंश के भूषण श्री रामजी क्या कभी अपने दास की भाँति मेरा स्मरण करते रहे हैं? भरतजी के अत्यंत नम्र वचन सुनकर हनुमान्जी पुलकित शरीर होकर उनके चरणों पर गिर पड़े (और मन में विचारने लगे कि) जो चराचर के स्वामी हैं, वे श्री रघुवीर अपने श्रीमुख से जिनके गुणसमूहों का वर्णन करते हैं, वे भरतजी ऐसे विनम्र, परम पवित्र और सद्गुणों के समुद्र क्यों न हों?
* राम प्रान प्रिय नाथ तुम्ह सत्य बचन मम तात।
पुनि पुनि मिलत भरत सुनि हरष न हृदयँ समात॥2क॥
Hanuman ji replied, “Lord, you are as dear to Shri Ram as His very life, take my words as true, dear brother.” Hearing these words, Bharat ji embraced Hanuman ji again and again, his heart overflowing with love.
(हनुमान्जी ने कहा-) हे नाथ! आप श्री रामजी को प्राणों के समान प्रिय हैं, हे तात! मेरा वचन सत्य है। यह सुनकर भरतजी बार-बार मिलते हैं, हृदय में हर्ष समाता नहीं है॥2क॥
* भरत चरन सिरु नाइ तुरित गयउ कपि राम पहिं।
कही कुसल सब जाइ हरषि चलेउ प्रभु जान चढ़ि॥2ख॥
After bowing his head at the feet of Shri Bharat, Hanuman ji departed to meet Shri Ram. Hanuman ji conveyed Bharat ji’s well-being to the Lord, and Shri Ram, filled with joy, then mounted the Pushpak plane and proceeded toward Ayodhya.
फिर भरतजी के चरणों में सिर नवाकर हनुमान्जी तुरंत ही श्री रामजी के पास (लौट) गए और जाकर उन्होंने सब कुशल कही। तब प्रभु हर्षित होकर विमान पर चढ़कर चले॥2ख॥
* हरषि भरत कोसलपुर आए। समाचार सब गुरहि सुनाए॥
पुनि मंदिर महँ बात जनाई। आवत नगर कुसल रघुराई॥1॥
Meanwhile, Shri Bharat joyfully reached Ayodhya from his hermitage and shared all the news with his Guru, Vashishth ji. He then went to the palace and informed everyone that Shri Raghunath would soon arrive safely in Ayodhya.
इधर भरतजी भी हर्षित होकर अयोध्यापुरी में आए और उन्होंने गुरुजी को सब समाचार सुनाया! फिर राजमहल में खबर जनाई कि श्री रघुनाथजी कुशलपूर्वक नगर को आ रहे हैं॥1॥
सुनत सकल जननीं उठि धाईं। कहि प्रभु कुसल भरत समुझाईं॥
समाचार पुरबासिन्ह पाए। नर अरु नारि हरषि सब धाए॥2॥
Hearing this news, all the mothers rose at once and began to run in excitement, but Bharat ji calmed their anxious hearts by personally assuring them of the Lord’s well-being. When the citizens learned of this joyful news, men and women alike rushed out with great delight to meet Shri Ram.
खबर सुनते ही सब माताएँ उठ दौड़ीं। भरतजी ने प्रभु की कुशल कहकर सबको समझाया। नगर निवासियों ने यह समाचार पाया, तो स्त्री-पुरुष सभी हर्षित होकर दौड़े॥2॥
दधि दुर्बा रोचन फल फूला। नव तुलसी दल मंगल मूला॥
भरि भरि हेम थार भामिनी। गावत चलिं सिंधुरगामिनी॥3॥
Adorning golden plates with offerings such as curd, durva grass, gorochan (a yellow fragrant substance), fruits, flowers, and tender leaves of the sacred Tulsi plant, the root of all blessings, married women advanced with an elegant, elephant-like gait, singing joyfully as they went.
(श्री रामजी के स्वागत के लिए) दही, दूब, गोरोचन, फल, फूल और मंगल के मूल नवीन तुलसीदल आदि वस्तुएँ सोने की थाली में भर-भरकर हथिनी की सी चाल वाली सौभाग्यवती स्त्रियाँ (उन्हें लेकर) गाती हुई चलीं॥3॥
जे जैसेहिं तैसेहिं उठि धावहिं। बाल बृद्ध कहँ संग न लावहिं॥
एक एकन्ह कहँ बूझहिं भाई। तुम्ह देखे दयाल रघुराई॥4॥
In their excitement, everyone hurried ahead just as they were, leaving the children and the elderly behind. They asked one another, “Brother, have you seen the merciful Shri Raghuveer?”
जो जैसे हैं (जहाँ जिस दशा में हैं) वे वैसे ही (वहीं से उसी दशा में) उठ दौड़ते हैं। (देर हो जाने के डर से) बालकों और बूढ़ों को कोई साथ नहीं लाते। एक-दूसरे से पूछते हैं- भाई! तुमने दयालु श्री रघुनाथजी को देखा है?॥4॥
अवधपुरी प्रभु आवत जानी। भई सकल सोभा कै खानी॥
बहइ सुहावन त्रिबिध समीरा। भइ सरजू अति निर्मल नीरा॥5॥
Even the city of Ayodhya seemed to transform into a treasure of radiant beauty, aware that Lord Ram was about to arrive. A delightful breeze blew, cool, calm, and fragrant, and the waters of the Saryu River grew tranquil and crystal clear.
प्रभु को आते जानकर अवधपुरी संपूर्ण शोभाओं की खान हो गई। तीनों प्रकार की सुंदर वायु बहने लगी। सरयूजी अति निर्मल जल वाली हो गईं। (अर्थात् सरयूजी का जल अत्यंत निर्मल हो गया)॥5॥
* हरषित गुर परिजन अनुज भूसुर बृंद समेत।
चले भरत मन प्रेम अति सन्मुख कृपानिकेत॥3क॥
With his heart overflowing with love, Bharat ji joyfully set out with his Guru, Vashishth, his younger brother Shatrughan ji, family members, and a great assembly of Brahmins to welcome the abode of mercy, Shri Ram.
गुरु वशिष्ठजी, कुटुम्बी, छोटे भाई शत्रुघ्न तथा ब्राह्मणों के समूह के साथ हर्षित होकर भरतजी अत्यंत प्रेमपूर्ण मन से कृपाधाम श्री रामजी के सामने अर्थात् उनकी अगवानी के लिए चले॥3क॥
बहुतक चढ़ीं अटारिन्ह निरखहिं गगन बिमान।
देखि मधुर सुर हरषित करहिं सुमंगल गान॥3ख॥
Many women climbed up to the terraces, gazing at the celestial aircraft moving across the sky; beholding it, their hearts overflowed with joy, and in sweet, melodious voices they sang auspicious songs of welcome and blessing.
बहुत सी स्त्रियाँ अटारियों पर चढ़ीं आकाश में विमान देख रही हैं और उसे देखकर हर्षित होकर मीठे स्वर से सुंदर मंगल गीत गा रही हैं॥3ख॥
राका ससि रघुपति पुर सिंधु देखि हरषान।
बढ़्यो कोलाहल करत जनु नारि तरंग समान॥3ग॥
Shri Raghupati is like the full Moon, and the city of Ayodhya is like an ocean swelling and surging with joyous uproar to behold His sight. The women move to and fro like eager waves, longing to welcome Shri Ram.
श्री रघुनाथजी पूर्णिमा के चंद्रमा हैं तथा अवधपुर समुद्र है, जो उस पूर्णचंद्र को देखकर हर्षित हो रहा है और शोर करता हुआ बढ़ रहा है (इधर-उधर दौड़ती हुई) स्त्रियाँ उसकी तरंगों के समान लगती हैं॥3ग॥
* इहाँ भानुकुल कमल दिवाकर। कपिन्ह देखावत नगर मनोहर॥

यह सुहावनी पुरी मेरी जन्मभूमि है। इसके उत्तर दिशा में जीवों को पवित्र करने वाली सरयू नदी बहती है, जिसमें स्नान करने से मनुष्य बिना ही परिश्रम मेरे समीप निवास (सामीप्य मुक्ति) पा जाते हैं॥3॥
अति प्रिय मोहि इहाँ के बासी। मम धामदा पुरी सुख रासी॥
हरषे सब कपि सुनि प्रभु बानी। धन्य अवध जो राम बखानी॥4॥
…The citizens of Ayodhya are exceedingly dear to me. This city is the root of all happiness and surely grants a place in my divine abode.” Hearing the words of Shri Ram, all the monkeys rejoiced and exclaimed, “Blessed indeed is Ayodhya, for it has received praise from Shri Ram Himself.”
यहाँ के निवासी मुझे बहुत ही प्रिय हैं। यह पुरी सुख की राशि और मेरे परमधाम को देने वाली है। प्रभु की वाणी सुनकर सब वानर हर्षित हुए (और कहने लगे कि) जिस अवध की स्वयं श्री रामजी ने बड़ाई की, वह (अवश्य ही) धन्य है॥4॥
* आवत देखि लोग सब कृपासिंधु भगवान।
नगर निकट प्रभु प्रेरेउ उतरेउ भूमि बिमान॥4क॥
Seeing the people approaching, the ocean of mercy, Lord Shri Ram, prompted the aerial chariot to descend near the city; at His divine will, the wondrous aircraft came down and gently touched the Earth.
कृपा सागर भगवान् श्री रामचंद्रजी ने सब लोगों को आते देखा, तो प्रभु ने विमान को नगर के समीप उतरने की प्रेरणा की। तब वह पृथ्वी पर उतरा॥4क॥
उतरि कहेउ प्रभु पुष्पकहि तुम्ह कुबेर पहिं जाहु।
प्रेरित राम चलेउ सो हरषु बिरहु अति ताहु॥4ख॥
Descending from the plane, the Lord addressed the Pushpak and said that it should now return to his master, Kuber (Demigod of Wealth). As directed by Shri Ram, the wondrous plane departed, filled with joy at reuniting with its master, yet overwhelmed with deep sorrow at being separated from the Lord.
विमान से उतरकर प्रभु ने पुष्पक विमान से कहा कि तुम अब कुबेर के पास जाओ। श्री रामचंद्रजी की प्रेरणा से वह चला, उसे (अपने स्वामी के पास जाने का) हर्ष है और प्रभु श्री रामचंद्रजी से अलग होने का अत्यंत दुःख भी॥4ख॥
* आए भरत संग सब लोगा। कृस तन श्रीरघुबीर बियोगा॥
बामदेव बसिष्ट मुनिनायक। देखे प्रभु महि धरि धनु सायक॥1॥
Bharat ji arrived with all the citizens, their frail bodies worn and weakened by long separation from Lord Raghuveer. Accompanying him were eminent Sages, foremost among them Guru Vashishth, Sage Vaamdev, and others, and when the Lord beheld the Sages before Him, He at once laid His bow and arrows upon the ground in reverence…
भरतजी के साथ सब लोग आए। श्री रघुवीर के वियोग से सबके शरीर दुबले हो रहे हैं। प्रभु ने वामदेव, वशिष्ठ आदि मुनिश्रेष्ठों को देखा, तो उन्होंने धनुष-बाण पृथ्वी पर रखकर-॥1॥
धाइ धरे गुर चरन सरोरुह। अनुज सहित अति पुलक तनोरुह॥
भेंटि कुसल बूझी मुनिराया। हमरें कुसल तुम्हारिहिं दाया॥2॥
He then rushed forward with His younger brother Lakshman ji, and both clasped the lotus-feet of Guru Vashishth, the hair on their bodies bristling with deep emotion. Sage Vashishth lovingly embraced them and asked after their well-being, to which Shri Ram humbly replied, “We are well, by your grace alone.”
छोटे भाई लक्ष्मणजी सहित दौड़कर गुरुजी के चरणकमल पकड़ लिए, उनके रोम-रोम अत्यंत पुलकित हो रहे हैं। मुनिराज वशिष्ठजी ने (उठाकर) उन्हें गले लगाकर कुशल पूछी। (प्रभु ने कहा-) आप ही की दया में हमारी कुशल है॥2॥
सकल द्विजन्ह मिलि नायउ माथा। धर्म धुरंधर रघुकुलनाथा॥
गहे भरत पुनि प्रभु पद पंकज। नमत जिन्हहि सुर मुनि संकर अज॥3॥
The epitome of righteousness, Shri Ram, then greeted all the Brahmins, bowing His head in reverence. Thereafter, Bharat ji clasped the lotus-feet of Lord Ram, which are venerated by the Demigods, Sages, Lord Shankar, and Lord Brahma.
धर्म की धुरी धारण करने वाले रघुकुल के स्वामी श्री रामजी ने सब ब्राह्मणों से मिलकर उन्हें मस्तक नवाया। फिर भरतजी ने प्रभु के वे चरणकमल पकड़े जिन्हें देवता, मुनि, शंकरजी और ब्रह्माजी (भी) नमस्कार करते हैं॥3॥
परे भूमि नहिं उठत उठाए। बर करि कृपासिंधु उर लाए॥
स्यामल गात रोम भए ठाढ़े। नव राजीव नयन जल बाढ़े॥4॥
Bharat ji remained prostrate upon the ground, refusing to rise even when Lord Ram sought to lift him. Then the ocean of mercy, Lord Ram, gently yet firmly took hold of Shri Bharat and embraced him, the hair on His bluish-hued body bristling with emotion as His lotus eyes overflowed with tears.
भरतजी पृथ्वी पर पड़े हैं, उठाए उठते नहीं। तब कृपासिंधु श्री रामजी ने उन्हें जबर्दस्ती उठाकर हृदय से लगा लिया। (उनके) साँवले शरीर पर रोएँ खड़े हो गए। नवीन कमल के समान नेत्रों में (प्रेमाश्रुओं के) जल की बाढ़ आ गई॥4॥
छंद :
*राजीव लोचन स्रवत जल तन ललित पुलकावलि बनी।
अति प्रेम हृदयँ लगाइ अनुजहि मिले प्रभु त्रिभुअन धनी॥
प्रभु मिलत अनुजहि सोह मो पहिं जाति नहिं उपमा कही।
जनु प्रेम अरु सिंगार तनु धरि मिले बर सुषमा लही॥1॥
Lord Ram’s lotus eyes streamed with tears of love, and His charming body was adorned with goosebumps throughout; the Lord of the three spheres of the Cosmos lovingly embraced His younger brother. Lord Shiv said to Parvati ji, “Uma, I cannot find words to describe the beauty of the Lord’s meeting with His younger brother Bharat; it appeared as though love and beauty themselves had taken living form and come together, filling that sacred moment with divine splendour.”
कमल के समान नेत्रों से जल बह रहा है। सुंदर शरीर में पुलकावली (अत्यंत) शोभा दे रही है। त्रिलोकी के स्वामी प्रभु श्री रामजी छोटे भाई भरतजी को अत्यंत प्रेम से हृदय से लगाकर मिले। भाई से मिलते समय प्रभु जैसे शोभित हो रहे हैं, उसकी उपमा मुझसे कही नहीं जाती। मानो प्रेम और श्रृंगार शरीर धारण करके मिले और श्रेष्ठ शोभा को प्राप्त हुए॥1॥
बूझत कृपानिधि कुसल भरतहि बचन बेगि न आवई॥
सुनु सिवा सो सुख बचन मन ते भिन्न जान जो पावई॥
अब कुसल कौसलनाथ आरत जानि जन दरसन दियो।
बूड़त बिरह बारीस कृपानिधान मोहि कर गहि लियो॥2॥
The merciful Lord asked Bharat about his well-being, yet words would not readily come to his aid. Shiv ji said, “Listen, O’ Shiva (Parvati ji), the bliss that Bharat was experiencing lay beyond speech and beyond the grasp of intellect, it can only be known by the one who is blessed to receive it.” Bharat ji replied to Shri Ram, “O’ Lord of the Koshal Kingdom, I am well, for You have blessed me with Your divine sight and have understood the anguish of Your servant; I was about to drown in the vast ocean of separation from Shri Ram, but the all-merciful Lord rescued me by holding my hand.”
कृपानिधान श्री रामजी भरतजी से कुशल पूछते हैं, परंतु आनंदवश भरतजी के मुख से वचन शीघ्र नहीं निकलते। (शिवजी ने कहा-) हे पार्वती! सुनो, वह सुख (जो उस समय भरतजी को मिल रहा था) वचन और मन से परे है, उसे वही जानता है जो उसे पाता है। (भरतजी ने कहा-) हे कोसलनाथ! आपने आर्त्त (दुःखी) जानकर दास को दर्शन दिए, इससे अब कुशल है। विरह समुद्र में डूबते हुए मुझको कृपानिधान ने हाथ पकड़कर बचा लिया!॥2॥
* पुनि प्रभु हरषि सत्रुहन भेंटे हृदयँ लगाइ।
लछिमन भरत मिले तब परम प्रेम दोउ भाइ॥5॥
The Lord then joyfully embraced Shatrughan ji close to His chest. After that, Lakshman ji and Bharat ji, the two brothers, met with utmost affection.
फिर प्रभु हर्षित होकर शत्रुघ्नजी को हृदय से लगाकर उनसे मिले। तब लक्ष्मणजी और भरतजी दोनों भाई परम प्रेम से मिले॥5॥
* भरतानुज लछिमन पुनि भेंटे। दुसह बिरह संभव दुख मेटे॥
सीता चरन भरत सिरु नावा। अनुज समेत परम सुख पावा॥1॥
Then Lakshman ji embraced his younger brother Shatrughan ji, and the terrible agony born of long separation was eased; thereafter, Bharat ji and Shatrughan ji bowed their heads at Sita ji’s feet, and both brothers were filled with supreme delight.
फिर लक्ष्मणजी शत्रुघ्नजी से गले लगकर मिले और इस प्रकार विरह से उत्पन्न दुःसह दुःख का नाश किया। फिर भाई शत्रुघ्नजी सहित भरतजी ने सीताजी के चरणों में सिर नवाया और परम सुख प्राप्त किया॥1॥
प्रभु बिलोकि हरषे पुरबासी। जनित बियोग बिपति सब नासी॥
प्रेमातुर सब लोग निहारी। कौतुक कीन्ह कृपाल खरारी॥2॥
The citizens of Ayodhya rejoiced at the sight of the Lord, and all the sorrow born of separation came to an end. Perceiving the people’s deep love and eager longing to behold Him, the destroyer of the demon Khar, the all-merciful Shri Ram, then performed a wondrous act.
प्रभु को देखकर अयोध्यावासी सब हर्षित हुए। वियोग से उत्पन्न सब दुःख नष्ट हो गए। सब लोगों को प्रेम विह्नल (और मिलने के लिए अत्यंत आतुर) देखकर खर के शत्रु कृपालु श्री रामजी ने एक चमत्कार किया॥2॥
अमित रूप प्रगटे तेहि काला। जथाजोग मिले सबहि कृपाला॥
कृपादृष्टि रघुबीर बिलोकी। किए सकल नर नारि बिसोकी॥3॥
At that very moment, Shri Ram manifested Himself in countless forms, appearing exactly as each person envisioned the gracious Lord within their own heart; through the outpouring of His boundless mercy, Lord Raghuveer lifted the sorrow from the hearts of all men and women and freed them from the pain of separation.
उसी समय कृपालु श्री रामजी असंख्य रूपों में प्रकट हो गए और सबसे (एक ही साथ) यथायोग्य मिले। श्री रघुवीर ने कृपा की दृष्टि से देखकर सब नर-नारियों को शोक से रहित कर दिया॥3॥
छन महिं सबहि मिले भगवाना। उमा मरम यह काहुँ न जाना॥
एहि बिधि सबहि सुखी करि रामा। आगें चले सील गुन धामा॥4॥
In a single instant, the Lord greeted everyone at once. Lord Shiv said to Parvati ji, “Uma, no one could comprehend this profound mystery.” Having satisfied all, Shri Ram, the very embodiment of compassion and noble virtues, then moved forward.
भगवान् क्षण मात्र में सबसे मिल लिए। हे उमा! यह रहस्य किसी ने नहीं जाना। इस प्रकार शील और गुणों के धाम श्री रामजी सबको सुखी करके आगे बढ़े॥4॥
कौसल्यादि मातु सब धाई। निरखि बच्छ जनु धेनु लवाई॥5॥
Mother Kaushalya and the other mothers rushed forward to meet Shri Ram, just as a newly calved cow runs swiftly toward its calf.
कौसल्या आदि माताएँ ऐसे दौड़ीं मानों नई ब्यायी हुई गायें अपने बछड़ों को देखकर दौड़ी हों॥5॥
