"I bow to Sita ji, the beloved of Shri Ramchandra, who governs creation, sustenance, and dissolution, dispels all afflictions, and bestows supreme welfare and prosperity."
सीय राममय सब जग जानी। करउँ प्रनाम जोरि जुग पानी॥1॥
"There are 8.4 million species of living creatures divided in four categories (plants, insects, birds, animals) that live in water, earth and sky. They are all part and parcel of the supreme Lord Shri Ram and Sita ji. I bow to all of them with folded hands."
गिरा ग्राम्य सिय राम जस गावहिं सुनहिं सुजान ॥10 ख॥
"Like the celestial Surabhi cow, which is dark-hued yet produces pure and highly beneficial milk cherished by all, my composition, though written in the local Awadhi language, will be sung and heard by the wise and intelligent. This is because it is filled with the divine glory of Lord Ram and Sita ji."
समुझतअमित राम प्रभुताई। करत कथा मन अति कदराई॥6॥
"The wind that can sweep away the mighty mountain Sumeru, what chance does delicate cotton have against such force? Similarly, understanding the infinite glories of Shri Ram, my cotton-like mind trembles with hesitation in attempting to compose this work."
सेवक स्वामि सखा सिय पी के। हित निरुपधि सब बिधि तुलसी के॥2॥
"I bow to Lord Mahesh (Shiv ji) and Goddess Parvati, who are my revered Gurus and divine parents, and embody compassion for the distressed and perform daily acts of charity. Lord Shiv serves as the attendant, master, and friend of Sita ji’s husband, Lord Ram. With boundless grace, Lord Mahesh and Goddess Parvati constantly watch over me (Tulsidas ji), ensuring my well-being in every possible way."
बंदउँ कौसल्या दिसि प्राची। कीरति जासु सकल जग माची॥2॥
"Lord Ram, in His boundless compassion, even forgave the washerman who had cast aspersions on Sita ji. Not only did Ram ji absolve him of his sins, but He also freed him from guilt and granted him a place in His heavenly abode. I then bow to Mother Kaushalya, whose glory is likened to the radiant eastern horizon from where the Sun rises, spreading her fame far and wide across the world."
जोग भोग महँ राखेउ गोई। राम बिलोकत प्रगटेउ सोई॥1॥
"I bow to all family members and relatives, as well as Sita ji’s father, King Videh Raj Janak, who possessed profound devotion to the feet of Lord Ram. Janak ji, whose name “Videh” signifies detachment from the self, was deeply immersed in meditating on the “Nirgun” (formless) aspect of the Lord through the strength of yoga and renunciation of worldly pleasures. Yet, upon beholding Lord Ram, his long-hidden devotion for the “Sagun” (manifested) form of the divine naturally surfaced, revealing his boundless love for the Lord."
बंदउँ सीता राम पद जिन्हहि परम प्रिय खिन्न॥18॥
"Just as words and their meanings, or water and its waves, appear distinct but are inherently the same, so too are Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. Though they seem separate, they are one in essence. I bow to their lotus feet, to whom the humble and pitiful are most dear."
राजा रामु अवध रजधानी। गावत गुन सुर मुनि बर बानी॥3॥
सेवक सुमिरत नामु सप्रीती। बिनु श्रम प्रबल मोह दलु जीती॥
फिरत सनेहँ मगन सुख अपनें। नाम प्रसाद सोच नहिं सपनें॥4॥
"Lord Ram vanquished Ravan along with his entire clan and returned to Ayodhya with Sita ji, where He was crowned King and made Avadh His capital. Thereafter, the Demigods and saints sang His glories in their melodious voices. However, His devotees, by simply meditating on His name with love, effortlessly conquer the mighty army of ignorance and delusion. Immersed in the joy of their own inner bliss, they move about in divine contentment. The fruit of chanting the Lord’s name is so pure that it never brings sorrow, not even in dreams."
साहिब सीतानाथ सो सेवक तुलसीदास॥28 ख॥
"I am a humble servant of Lord Ram, and everyone acknowledges this as well. Yet, Lord Ram must endure the irony that a master as exalted as the Lord of Sita ji has a servant as insignificant as Tulsidas."
तुलसी सुभग सनेह बन सिय रघुबीर बिहारु॥31॥
"Tulsidas ji compares Ram Katha to the sacred river Mandakini, flowing through the revered land of Chitrakoot, where Lord Ram and Sita ji spent many years of their exile. The heart, he says, is Chitrakoot, and unconditional, pure love is the forest where Sita ji roams alongside Shri Raghuveer."
जननि जनक सिय राम प्रेम के। बीज सकल ब्रत धरम नेम के॥2॥
"To attain supreme knowledge, detachment, and penance, the qualities of Lord Ram are like Sadhguru, an enlightened guide who leads devotees on the path of righteousness. These qualities are akin to the divine physicians, Ashwinikumars, who heal the fearsome ailments of the material world. They serve as the nurturing mother and father of devotion to Shri Sita Ram ji and are the very seed of all penance, righteousness, and discipline."
पुरइनि सघन चारु । जुगुति मंजु मनि सीप सुहाई॥2॥
"The glories of Lord Ram and Sita ji are like nectar-filled waters, soothing and divine. The metaphors woven into this poetry resemble playful waves that delight the heart. The beautiful Chaupais (verses) in Shri Ramcharitmanas are akin to a lush cluster of lotus plants. The poetic techniques employed in this masterpiece are like exquisite shells that yield radiant pearls."
नदी नाव पटु प्रस्न अनेका। केवट कुसल उतर सबिबेका॥1॥
"The enchanting episode of Sita ji’s marriage to Lord Ram is the delightful charm adorning the river. Clever questions serve as the boats on this river, while intelligent answers are the skillful boatmen guiding them."
