"डरपोकों को भय उपजाने वाली अत्यंत अपवित्र रक्त की नदी बह चली। दोनों दल उसके दोनों किनारे हैं। रथ रेत है और पहिए भँवर हैं। वह नदी बहुत भयावनी बह रही है। हाथी, पैदल, घोड़े, गदहे तथा अनेकों सवारियाँ ही, जिनकी गिनती कौन करे, नदी के जल जन्तु हैं। बाण, शक्ति और तोमर सर्प हैं, धनुष तरंगें हैं और ढाल बहुत से कछुवे हैं।"

"A most inauspicious and terrifying river of blood began to flow, striking fear into the faint-hearted. The two opposing armies formed its banks, chariots became its sands, and their wheels turned into fearful whirlpools. Elephants, foot soldiers, horses, donkeys, and countless vehicles appeared as aquatic creatures, while arrows, spears, and lances were like serpents, bows like rolling waves, and shields like numerous tortoises in that dreadful river of war."
