"देवताओं को श्री रामजी की स्तुति करते देख कर रावण ने सोचा, मैं इनकी समझ में एक हो गया, (परन्तु इन्हें यह पता नहीं कि इनके लिए मैं एक ही बहुत हूँ) और कहा- अरे मूर्खों! तुम तो सदा के ही मेरे मरैल (मेरी मार खाने वाले) हो। ऐसा कहकर वह क्रोध करके आकाश पर (देवताओं की ओर) दौड़ा॥3॥"
