Hindi Meaning
"धर्म और स्नेह दोनों ने कौसल्याजी की बुद्धि को घेर लिया। उनकी दशा साँप-छछूँदर की सी हो गई। वे सोचने लगीं कि यदि मैं अनुरोध (हठ) करके पुत्र को रख लेती हूँ तो धर्म जाता है और भाइयों में विरोध होता है,॥2॥"
English Meaning
"Mother Kaushalya’s mind was torn between her duty and her deep affection for Shri Ram. Her inner conflict was like that of a serpent who has caught a musk rat (unable to devour it for fear of death, yet unable to release it without risking blindness). She thought to herself, “If I compel my Son to stay, it would be unrighteous, and it might cause discord between the Brothers…"
