"The royal pier was beautiful and excellent in every respect, where men of all four varnas, Brahmins (priests, teachers, and intellectuals), Kshatriyas (warriors, Kings, and administrators), Vaishyas (agriculturalists, traders, and farmers), and Shudras (workers, labourers, and artisans), came to bathe. Along the riverbanks stood temples dedicated to the Demigods, encircled by lovely and well-tended gardens."
