"अहंकार अत्यंत दुःख देने वाला डमरू (गाँठ का) रोग है। दम्भ, कपट, मद और मान नहरुआ (नसों का) रोग है। तृष्णा बड़ा भारी उदर वृद्धि (जलोदर) रोग है। तीन प्रकार (पुत्र, धन और मान) की प्रबल इच्छाएँ प्रबल तिजारी हैं॥18॥"

"…Egotism is likened to the most painful form of gout, while hypocrisy, deceit, arrogance, and pride resemble stubborn diseases of the veins. The craving for enjoyment is compared to severe edema, a swelling caused by inner imbalance, and the threefold desires (for offspring, wealth, and fame) are like a raging fever born of the disturbance of wind, bile, and phlegm within the body…."
