मानस का रूप और माहात्म्य – Metaphorical representation of the Manas as a Lake

"तीन प्रकार के श्रोता (१.श्रद्धालु- जो पूरे आदर के साथ वक्ता की बात सुनते हैं, कोई टीका टिप्पणी नहीं करते हैं, २.जिज्ञासु- जो सुनते हैं और बीच बीच में जिज्ञासा यानि प्रश्न भी करते हैं, ३.परीक्षक या आलोचक- ये वक्ता के ज्ञान की परीक्षा लेने के लिए सुनते हैं और उसकी आलोचना भी करते हैं) इस मानस रूपी नदी के दोनों किनारों पर बसे हुए पुरवे, गाँव और नगर हैं और संतों की सभा ही सब सुंदर मंगलों की जड़ अनुपम अयोध्याजी हैं॥39॥"

"The cities, villages, and towns along both banks of the river (representing Shri Ramcharitmanas) symbolize the three types of listeners found in society: believers or true devotees, seekers or inquisitive devotees, and those who doubt or criticize. The unique assembly of saints is likened to Ayodhya, the source of all blissful auspiciousness."
