Hindi Meaning
"अब मैं आदरपूर्वक श्री शिवजी को सिर नवाकर श्री रामचन्द्रजी के गुणों की निर्मल कथा कहता हूँ। श्री हरि के चरणों पर सिर रखकर संवत् १६३१ (विक्रम सम्बत = ईस्वी सन + ५७) यानि १५७४ ईस्वी सन् में इस कथा का आरंभ करता हूँ॥2॥"
English Meaning
"Now, with utmost respect, I bow my head to Lord Shiv and prepare to recite the sacred tale of the divine qualities of Lord Ram. Bowing at the feet of Lord Hari, I commence the composition of the Ramcharitmanas in the year 1574 A.D., corresponding to 1631 Vikram Sambat (calculated as A.D. + 57 years = Vikram Sambat)."
