"पहले (सत्य) युग में ध्यान से, दूसरे (त्रेता) युग में यज्ञ से और द्वापर में पूजन से भगवान प्रसन्न होते हैं, परन्तु कलियुग केवल पाप की जड़ और मलिन है, इसमें मनुष्यों का मन पाप रूपी समुद्र में मछली बना हुआ है (अर्थात पाप से कभी अलग होना ही नहीं चाहता, इससे ध्यान, यज्ञ और पूजन नहीं बन सकते)॥2॥"

"In Satyayug, the Lord could be fully satisfied through simple meditation. In Tretayug, He was pleased by performing various penances and yagyas (religious oblations). In Dwaparyug, wholehearted worship was enough to satisfy Him. However, Kaliyug, being the age of impurities, is vastly different. The minds of people in this era are likened to fish constantly swimming in an ocean of sins, making it exceedingly difficult for them to meditate, perform penances, or worship with the same devotion and discipline as in earlier ages."
