"राजा करोड़ों प्रकार से (बहुत तरह से) समझाकर (और यह कहकर) कि तू क्यों सर्वनाश कर रही है, पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े। पर कपट करने में चतुर कैकेयी कुछ बोलती नहीं, मानो (मौन होकर) मसान जगा रही हो (श्मशान में बैठकर प्रेतमंत्र सिद्ध कर रही हो)॥36॥"

"After pleading with Queen Kaikeyi in countless ways, the King collapsed to the ground and cried out, “Why are you destroying everything?” But Kaikeyi, cunning and cold, stood silent, like one invoking spirits in a cremation ground."
