"माथे पर हाथ रखकर, दोनों नेत्र बंद करके राजा ऐसे सोच करने लगे, मानो साक्षात्‌ सोच ही शरीर धारण कर सोच कर रहा हो। (वे सोचते हैं- हाय!) मेरा मनोरथ रूपी कल्पवृक्ष फूल चुका था, परन्तु फलते समय कैकेयी ने हथिनी की तरह उसे जड़ समेत उखाड़कर नष्ट कर डाला॥4॥"
