कैकेयी का कोपभवन में दशरथ जी के साथ संवाद, दशरथ का शोक, सुमन्त्र का महल में जाना – Dialogue between King and Kaikeyi in the sulking chamber, Dashrath ji’s lamentation, Sumantra goes to the palace and sees King in distress

"दोनों वरदान उस नदी के दो किनारे हैं, कैकेयी का कठिन हठ ही उसकी (तीव्र) धारा है और कुबरी (मंथरा) के वचनों की प्रेरणा ही भँवर है। (वह क्रोध रूपी नदी) राजा दशरथ रूपी वृक्ष को जड़-मूल से ढहाती हुई विपत्ति रूपी समुद्र की ओर (सीधी) चली है॥2॥"

"Queen Kaikeyi’s two boons formed the banks of this furious river, her unbending stubbornness its raging current. The whirlpools were the cunning words of the hunchbacked maidservant, Manthara. Uprooting the mighty tree that was King Dashrath, the river surged ahead, racing toward a boundless ocean of ruin."
